XR$ti steering racks

So there's three readily available racks. The old TRW with either 3.5 or 2.7 turns. And the ZF rack with 2.5 turns. Mine is the 2.7 and it's just a bit much for my liking. Somewhere I saw John say something about a TRW 4X4 rack with 1.9 turns. Have you ever looked into getting the TRW racks rebuilt to 1.9 turns? Just curious. 1.9 turns would be awesome.

dude...i just watched your in-car...

you don't need no quicker steering.

I watch alot of local guys here, who go to quick racks, and all they end up doing is sawing WAY too much.

you are doing well...and...more seat time and you will get more accustomed to turning the car with the things at the end of your feet, rather than the thing at the end of your hands.

i contend that the steering wheel is nothing but an accessory.

Interpreted as 'more seat time and you won't suck as bad.' smiling smiley

Yeah I think that Grant needs to get the right diff ratio, then he won't "need" all the bewst, and the car'll go sideways at command easier.
Also the turbo he has isn't what I'd use or reccomend, he needs the Cossie exhaust housing, and that'll mean the thing starts making good useable bewst at 1000 rpm lower, also helping rotation.
Chris, call me, this email thing ain't the hot shit and we need to get the tubes and spares thing wrapped up.

I five hundred times !!! that. Fuck, I'll drive to Sleezatle to pick up the beam when one's ready for me. It'd be a fun weekend trip and come see the kiddos and wifey. Oh, and boo boo kitties.

I'll go with the Cossie turbine housing at some point as well. Just not ready or willing to redo the downpipe currently. Too many more important and pressing things and too little fundage. In fact, I just got paid and I'm already in the negative.

I can relate to this one. I got my tax rebate and my checking account balance actually went down.

sorry for the dumb questions, I'm just not familiar with this car...

So where does this car redline? What's your current usable power band? When does your current turbo kick in?

thx.

Redline is somewhere around 6000 RPMs. Mine gets pretty dull around there or even 5800-ish. A little head work though and you can get it to 7500 or higher.
Boost comes on around 2500 or so I think and builds the full 18 psi in little time. The turbo I have has the .63 AR turbine which isn't ideal for a rally car, but it's what I have.

Grant, my XR started out with one of the TRW racks which I swapped for a ZF rack after couple of events. The ZF rack is a huge improvement. Once I became comfortble in the car I started doing most of my steering with the right pedal.
