Yes, I've seen them fail plenty of times. Usually the rears, the centers will tear right out which, in an extreme ocurrence, will lead to a strut being dragged underneath the rear bumper. The fronts hold up better but the bearings can get worn out leading to excessive play and contact with the upper spring hat. The rubber can also get beat and crack and start pushing up through but I've never seen a front totally tear out unless it was the result of a big accident. Stock strut top mounts are the worst because the rubber is really too soft for rally but I've seen the Group N mounts fail as well (especially the rears.) Really, you only want to use the Group N mounts for rally as they have harder rubber and hold up better. Keep the stock mounts in the truck for spares.

interesting...I guess now that I think of it, I haven't heard of that either. I swapped out my entire suspension at 50K miles, so I didn't really give them a chance to fail.

I just know every stock bushing/mount/etc I've ever changed out has been extremely soft compared to the upgraded/group N equivelant I replaced it with. So I just assume that the top mounts are about the same quality/compliance.

after pulling my tein top mount apart once, it doesn't seem that hard to fabricate a custom (and cheaper) adj, aluminum plate that would hold up.

custom fab the plate, find a good spherical bearing set-up, press it in...voila.

fuck yeah!! see? I KNEW it was easy!

seriously though, I know its not THAT easy, but at +$300/pair...worth looking into. lets take out the 'adjustable' part.....just a thick plate w/the 3 mounting bolts, spherical bearing...nothing elaborate.

nope, but sure seems like something that would be really helpful if someone posted some pics.
