240 axles are 54.5" flange to flange.
That model was produced from 75 to 93, and always had disc brakes. Prior to that, the 164 had rear discs, don't know about 140 series, and the Amazon (122) definitely did not have rear discs. I believe 164 and 140 have same axle width as 240. Also, I think the 740 and 760 have the same axle as 240, but the 940/960 had slightly wider axle. Monika Hawkinson Seattle, WA |

volvo 140-160 axles are 55.75" exept the 75' 160 witch has a 240 rear axle. all 160-140 axles had disc brakes.
122-1800 had disk brakes 66" and up. not sure on the width will have to go crall under a car. the 700 axles i have here are the longest of all the volvo axles i have at the shop, i don't have one complete but the axles them selves are 2.25" longer than the 240 so that would make the 700 axle 59" lawrence knox aka fidel knox motorspors knoxmotorsports.us |

And gear > info to You'll have a tuff time finding one with an LSD in it. It's super big news when someone finds one. Starting around the 80s Volvos were generally bought by people who hated cars.. and people who hate cars aren't prone to wanting a locking rear (I would assume).. anyways the chances are slim to none that you will find one in a volvo axle in a bone yard. They're dana 1030s and 1031s. Best go read this: http://www.davebarton.com/volvorearends.html I had a lookie and it looks to be the right info. I know Fidel knows more about this than I do. Thanks for the info ...My day job is gear and trans stuff...Do a lot of the Arizona Rally Mafia's work..The Volvo rear end is one I've not dug onto...And need too..Do to my job I did to know all the info on axles... The info on the Volvo pages "look" to have hole in them..We are eyeball deep in Volvo's in Prescott AZ ..And know one loves them up here...Cheap and in the junk yards all over..At my shop I have I bet every Dana 30 gear and diff ever made I would think after all these years doing diff's...So I'll see what I come up with..I've come to see a lot of diff info on the web is not right...The Volvo pages never brings up the Trac-lock...Strange..???..I've been seeing Quadra-Drive LSD coming apart in my world ..Not what "I" would uses..I'm into the KISS thing in life...The stock Volvo LSD is a Power-lock...
The hole in the cross shafts was a left over from when the Jeeps had two peace axle and a "button" were the shafts would meet the axles and shimed out at the brakes..Not used on Volvo's... One of the reasons for this info is I'm looking into a axle for my 73 Capri..But I "think" its to wide..Not that I've gottin under it to see how wide the Capri is ..But will do that this week...Was going to last week when I worked on the brakes ..DUH...LOL... Here's a strange one and I "could" be talking out my ass.. But some years ago I came across a Volvo that had the roof "lower" then the other two in the junk yard..And there was one running around town for years that looked the same way...Then I stop seeing it for some years.. I just come across it parked in a back yard...I'm I seeing things or need Volvo lower the roof on some cars...............????........Strange... Chop Top Rally Volvo ...lol.... |

I know a lot about cars ..But this is new one on me...Did some looking on the web..I'll have to go take a look at the car..The one in the junk yard there was not much left of that one..Is this some thing that should be saved?...Not that I need a nother car like a hole in my head.. LOL |

LOL Should it be saved? That depends on who you ask. Personally it's just another car.. if you like the look of em and have the space then you'll have a car you shouldn't have too much trouble selling when you want. If you want to pull some parts to sell, all the glass and the doors are unique to that model (obviously). Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

Bentones still pop up pretty often in the NW.

yeah, the bertones, what were they thinking/smoking? Strangely I've seen several of them on the web that ended up as v8 drag cars.
There are some people who are REALLY into those things, the bertone is also the car on the cover of "Crap Cars", a textbook about ass-ugly cars. maybe build it for the salt flats and try to get into the 200mph club... -Aldo |

Other than the chopped roof.. it's got a PRV V6 and some other trinkets like badging and interior jazz... John Lane runs one. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |
