Not a lot of project like this out there......very cool. The front/rear custom suspension is pretty sweet.

Those subframes are on my Xmas list. SO nice.

I was actually thinking of saving up for a few years to do Baja, since it's closer to me than ANY rally in America (sadly enough), and because it's on my 'bucket list' - but after talking with Cusico about the costs, that brought me back to reality!

Jeez Louise.... why would anyone do that?

You'd fab it into a truck by the time you got enough strength and suspension travel for Baja.

I do admire the misguided effort though.

Well, if the sco0by guys do this sort of thing to an Impretzel, I don't see how a truck version isn't in the WoRX somewhere...

Although, for some reason, I read the title and thought of a Brat...

I don't think it's misquided at all. If you own a Subaru rally car and want to run Baja, why not do something interesting and go for it, provided you have the means financially? I give the guy props. It wasn't fabbed into a truck either, just had a snorkel and a fuel cell. The tubular subframes came after they got back.

I was talking to the shop owner who prepped that car and he said actually the Subaru was doing quite well (traction-wise, keeping up, etc..) before they broke down.

Subaru's (most cars actually) have a hard enough time finishing 100 mile rallies with 4 or 5 services.

The owner needs better friends that will smack him upside the head when he has ideas like this. smiling smiley The crossmembers are really cool. That's what I want to do for the rear of the Merkur, using Subaru uprights, brakes, and struts, with a custom stub shaft into the upright, stock or Cossie halfshafts and the Mk3 Supra differential. That's a few years down the road though for sure.

Subaru diffs won't hold up to RWD with the amount of power I make. Nor probably would the Subaru halfshafts. The Supra diff is cheap, 4.3 final drive, lots of aftermarket options, and clutch type LSD stock.
Not totally bench racing. Crossmember design has been started, I pulled the plug on the project because I have no spare money at the moment. Maybe next summer after graduation and the resulting 20K per year raise.

Here's a pretty picture of one. This is the Escort Group A uber expensive one that uses the equally expensive for 9" diff. Both use the Ford Group A front uprights and other fancy stuff. You can easily spend $8000+ to buy this rear setup.
