JVAB GTX Strut Pictures
August 04, 2008 09:11PM
Here ya go John. I finally got around to making some ears and assembling the strut tubes and inserts that I bought from you last year. Couldn't bring myself to paint them "nuclear florescent JVAB booger green" though...I compromised with a random can of dark green from the paint cabinet I cut the brake hose tabs of a set of stock struts to make it a clean bolt in affair. The fronts are an extra 10mm of stroke at 185mm and the rears are stock at 210mm.

FRONT:

REAR:

The stock rear struts are so absurdly long that even with 210mm inserts I still had to add another 2" of extension to the tubes before they were long enough.

So far they are a vast improvement over the GAB set that came with the car. The spring rated are much more even front to back resulting in less understeer. I haven't played with them at full speed yet but they seem to just get smoother the faster I go... Way fun.

Nice ear design but I've already gotten 3 complaints about the color.

Come on Tim, the Kawasaki green looks sharp in person.

Hell Krylon Federal Safety Purple or "Plum" would be better than that.
We have standard of taste around here, that's just too dull.

Is that a call for "Honda Red" paint? We do have some standards around here... When I pull them off to go on the new shell I'll paint them again. I'll even let you choose from whatever Industrial Imron colors I have in the paint cabinet. Otherwise you have to send me paint.

For Christsake John! Its called customer support! You should be sending us tech updates and more pics of Finnish girls and cans of spray paint.

I been searching everywhere for some Kawi-mean-racing-green, did you hoard all of it on the west coast?

Actually, I thought I was going to get a free JVAB T shirt with the struts...

and yeah thanks I had a blast at the wowwy cwoss, if you are referring to explosive diarrhea.

Hey Jon,

I had a great time, thanks for all the effort. Putting on an event looks like a ton of work.

Looks good. Well done on the ears but they need gussets.

Thanks, I ran out of time on the gussets. I knocked off work at 4PM on Friday afternoon and by the time I had made the ears, machined the extensions, transplanted the brake tabs, welded everything up, etc, etc, and installed it was 1AM.

Then I took Al (thanks again for the help) for a little test drive on the railroad tracks behind the shop. I had some pucker when a big road bed rock came around in the rim and ripped off a rear brake line. We were going about 45mph and pointed strait at the RR crossing pole when the brake pedal went to the floor I scrubbed the tires on the rail and e-braked to a stop before we hit though. The new brake setup is going to get dual master cylinders...pedal to the floor at speed is not something I want to repeat.
