Why not glue some rubber turds on them?

Or empty a can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew and encapuslate it in clear acylic so it always looks like somebody fuck barfed on it?
That way when somebody DOES spew all over it, it'll blend right the fuck in.

Here's some that's almost matches!

How does the coilover tube attach to the extention tube with the mount on it??

How does it go from this picture of the way you had it to what it is now?

Also how come this set that JV made for gtx a while back (2nd pic) not need the extra extension piece like your does? Are the struts longer?

I machined a locating shoulder into the JVAB strut tube and then a mating collar/weld v-grove into the extension. Tapped it together with a hammer and welded.

By designing the ears, making the ears, and installing them. I bought raw tubes from John because I wanted to make my own mounting parts.

I can't say for sure because I've never measured those. My rear inserts are 210mm which is the longest Bilstein makes. Do you have any insight John?

Finally some full speed testing. It handles nicely but the car still needs more travel on the front end. The current CV joints are maxed out with the 185mm struts so I'm going to be forced into doing something creative.

Well they did get an extension. I make the tubes one length and for those Japonaise cars that got extra long tubes and long inserts, I make a short extension and it's under the ears thingies.
See the problem is welding in the bottom piece that the shaft threads into when it stops UP inside the tube.

There ARE Bilstein inserts with 210 travel and simply longer tubes but fawk me if I can find the PN and then they would be finished on the top end with some whacked out thread meaning re-doing that to fit the typical 15mm bearing the Japonaise use in their top mounts.

The extension tube is easiest and does just fine with the ears supporting it.

What can really be done to the CVs? They can't be lengthened much more can they?

You're switching over to the ST205 tranny anyway right? So might as well do it all at once right?

Have you seen the bearing plate support mods for the gtx gearboxes? Apparently keeping the trans temps down by running a cooler and running a bearing support plate makes thems actually somewhat strong.

John,

I can you any part numbers of inserts you need from Bilstien. No problemo...
I think the part number for the 40mm piston 210mm travel insert is
F4-V36-0007136

They would have to be replaced by something custom that can handle the angle like a clearanced 935 Porche joint. I doubt I'm going to do it on this car.

That's the plan...it lets me keep the current car in one piece and sell it complete once the new shell is built up.

Yes I've seen it, but I don't really like it. The support plate is just a band-aid fix and the transfer gears are still weak. The Toyota transmission is stronger in every way including having, bigger gears, bearings, and better synchros. I'm going for minimum maintenance and no worries on the new drivetrain.

EDIT: Mazda BF on the top (note the stripped 3rd gear) vs ST185 Celica on the bottom.

Ok I see what you're talking about there with the Porsche stuff, a friend of mine had them on his Baja Bug...

So far from what I can tell and I've never really looked into this before...

You can get the 930 cv joints for ~65 bucks a piece. I doubt that's a chromoly or 300M (PH stainless?). And give the measurements to mosier to make some axles (chromoly?) Have the axle splined to match the 930 CV joint on both ends. Do you use C-clips on either axle end to hold the CV's in place on the axle?

And you're left with having to make stubshafts, correct? Stainless? CrMo? That's the real crux of the whole situation. Has anyone ever made these for the GTX?

The 934's are larger than the 930s for the big boys.

That was on my relatives ranch outside Red Bluff. Here is their propaganda page.

http://www.bigbluffranch.com/history.html

If you want some nice organic grass fed lamb or steak give them a call. Nice fishing on the reservoir too.

To bad they're about to put a conservation easement on it that will prohibit any motorsoprts event. I did at least manage to sneak a provision into the contract that will let me continue to test my car there.
