I made a paper template today of the side profile of the rotor, rotor hat, and caliper as an assembly. I made a drawing format in a 1:1 scale and printed it out on thick paper.
I have more clearance that I thought I did judging by the 3D model I made of the wheel. I remember when modeling that I always tried to err on the small side and now I've got a few more MM here and there of clearance which is a good thing. The template shows I've got about 5-6mm clearance between the spokes of the wheel and the caliper and 7-8mm between the barrel of the wheel and the top of the caliper.
So far so good. I ordered rotors 282mm x 25mm and mounting hardware, which should be here middle of next week. Then I have to compare the actual rotor to the rotor drawings which I used to make my 3D models and make any changes. Also model the mounting hardware and make sure all that stuff fits. Fun! Fun! Fun!
I'm going to make the rotor hats on a HAAS VF-0 and generate the tool path using Mastercam x3.
