DMS breathers?
September 16, 2008 07:58AM
Hey,
Is there an alternate (less expensive) source for DMS breathers?
Thanks in advance,

when I ran DMS and got tired of replacing the silly breather tubes I just ran some tubing from a cheap fitting in the shock through a hole drilled into the trunk and a litttle filter on the end of it.

How come I don't see these breathers on many other shocks?

Because it's much simpler to just drill a drain hole in the bottom plate of the strut housing. You can package and sell replacement breathers that are fragile as part of your business model. It's much harder to sell the absence of material in a little package...although I guess they could sell you a drill bit

I know the guys at Salta Motorsports found some good, cheap solution. Don't know what it is, but you might try giving them or Checkpoint a call and asking.

I like the hose idea, just make sure it's a relatively robust hose that won't collapse under vacuum. There is a lot of air pumping in and out of the bottom of that strut housing (roughly 24 cubic inches are displaced through an 8" stroke), you don't want the "drain hole" to suck dirt.

Yeah, I used vacum hose and with the filter in the trunk there was relatively little gunk on the filters. The DMS breathers get caked in dirt after the first stage-then they fall off.

Ok, the best I 've come up with is a Clippard 15002-1 fitting and 15070 muffler.

I've never had any problems with the breathers. Maybe I don't drive fast or hard enough. The only problem has been when I knocked one off in my accident a month ago. BTW, I'm looking for a Subaru GC rear body and breather, don't need the insert or springs.

I haven't had a lot of problems, probably they just loosen up and disappear, but i need some, now.
