Braided fuel hose and gas fumage
December 15, 2008 02:18PM
On my last car I used standard braided rubber fuel hose and the interior of the car (or garage if I left the windows down) always smelled like gas. If I pony up a few extra bucks for the teflon lined fuel hose will it contain the smell? I was going to use my OEM steel lines but they won't fit back in the car with the cage and I would rather not have to go with bending all new hardline at this point....Any other downside to the teflon line?

The teflon will not smell like the rubber. It won't bend as tight without kinking, though. I prefer hard lines to the bulkheads and flexible (braided) at the ends. It's way cheaper and it's really not that difficult to bend. You're just being lazy. winking smiley If you can, run the fuel lines down the tunnel that way they are safe from damage due to a side impact. BTW, I've built many Subaru rollcages and have always been able to keep the stock fuel lines with just a little bit of bending by hand around the main hoop and an additional Adel clamp to hold them down.

Ha! You saw through my laziness. Actually, I do want to save time, but mostly I wanted to route them down the tunnel as you suggested. That, and when I can't afford to rally any more I'll have the extra capacity of the -6 line to feed my 500hp time attack motor... winking smiley

I think I'm going to try the teflon hose and see how it goes....Thanks for the help

Silly boy go buy some 3/8" steel pipe at Auto Zoo.
STEEL BRAKE LINE or whatever will bend easily, cost under 15 bucks and with a few inverted flare unions you're set.

Don't run flexy unless you need to to flex.
