Matco sells a fancy, expensive pneumatic tool for cutting out windshields, I had my local dealer order up a replacement blade for it. It needed a small notch to match a standard sawzall blade end. It is about 6" long, and has a serrated bull nose, and is flat on one side. Put the flat side against the glass, and it works wonders in a sawzall. I removed the windshield out of my merkur in 5 minutes without breaking the glass. I HAD a perfect windshield in my parts car that I was going to cut out too, but i just noticed it did the dredded self implosion crack starting at the mirror mount.

I've had pretty good luck with the HF removal kit: subaru's, corolla's, volvo's... Guitar strings DO NOT WORK and if you find your self at the junk yard looking at a good piece of glass without the proper tools, throttle cables work pretty good and they're free at the JY!

That's a great suggestion, I like it! I'll have to remember that for next time.

I've never had to remove any crazy german-engineered windows, just the one in my Mazdog, and a few old 60's/70's/80's 'merikun cars. I like the Dodges, just pull out the zipstrip, pull out the window, done.

I felt pretty clever when I thought of using throttle cables after Joel and I went through all the guitar strings we brought,

But in the end I got impatient and broke it right at the corner, it worked pretty good in a pinch though!

Vise grips on each end of the wire also work for sawing back and forth.
