"For a small section of brake line, i want to use flexible line with banjo bolt ends. I have heard you can use -3an but is the hose the same run of the mill "Earl's" or "Russell" hose or it is something special for brakes?

Use only steel fittings for brakes. Earl's/Russell works fine. I also like Speedway Motors, if you are set up for just straight fittings on each end of the hose. If you need a banjo for clearance, there are banjo to 3an adapters.
