John:

Let's say some frustrated guy who can't source an Opel-Isuzu Coupe to convert to a Kadett C clone with modern motive power to save his life, gets a wild hair that a 122 would be a neat "outlaw vintage" project and can source a solid one relatively easily.

Do you have any literature on building one into a rally car?

What modern motive power can be put under the hood? Relatively inexpensively? Relatively easily?

I know the T5 is an option on the later wider tunnel cars.

Thanks,

Wilson

Why a B23 SOHC with lighter internals, 11.5:1 and a nice cam would be an easy and amusing swap-in.
A Rack with quicker ratio then the original Amazon might be nice.

You actually can make pretty good power out of the push-rod things.
And they can also benefit from the lighter internals (ie longer connecting rods so that you can use a much shorter piston and save about 450g per hole in reciprocating weight----that'll wake up how the motor feels as much as rad cams etc)
Do the T5 and a 240 Dana 30 swap and you could have a nice lookin caer competitive with the best Gp2 cars.

Our next rally project is a 122S that our crew chief owns. Should be a blast! :-)

Cheers! John

Where might one procure a quicker rack?

An easy to use, front mount, 2.6 turns ZF rack is found in the front of most Xratties.
And Wilson, if you'd like, I can put you in touch with a sharp fellow sorta out your way which already makes interesting stiff, and is willing to do the sort of things you'll need if you want to do this project.
He's in Richmond, VA and a runs a Volvo repair shop and is non-dogmatic where things come from.

What's the geometry and installation process? What about quicker steering arms as an option (as in our Colt).
