A coupla ask's regarding wheel size and 2nd hand tires.

Whats up folks.

I figured I'd run this by... the people who actually run cars on dirt and see what their opinions were.

I found a local guy who has a 5 alloy volvo rims and is offering them for cheap... Like 100 for the set.

Seeing how I'm already breaking steelies at grass-o-crosses, I figure this is an ok deal.

Issue is, These alloys are 15's. My set up now is 14' steelies.

Once i start buying dirt tires, i will have to stick to 2nd hand or worse for a good long while... Will I be wasting my time with 15s on this here car?

It will be way, way, way easier to find used 15" rally tires.

Looks like it's an old Volvo. Do you run Subaru sized tires, or G2 sized tires on that thing?

If it's the former, 15s are the way to go, if it's the latter...Not too many takeoffs in 15s.

Oops, Should have specified. A Volvo 240.

I got a pretty good score, Various volvo bits i needed, and 4 alloys and an offer for more in the future, $40.

He was more happy to have the garage space then the cash/parts.

Now... Who on the right coast might have some used tires they arent interested in...

Chad, somehow I missed your reply last night. So, here goes: This is a car I am trying to make into a stage car, But got sidetracked before I got to deep and have to daily it for a while. Im picking up things when I see them for cheap for when I can get back with the build, which will be early next year.

Short answer- I dont know, be it Subaru or G2, as right now I am running snow tires on 14in steelies for rallycrosses.

Point was, I didnt want to spend money on something (in this case the used volvo alloys) that would be useless in the future. I guess I have to ask the other rally-volvo dudes what works for them.

Luckily for me, once the guy saw I was going to use em for a Volvo, rather tha junk them, He basically gave them away... This made my decision easier.

You should ask Dustin Embry what he thinks of Volvo rims after Olympus...

The problem with using soft oem style alloys to rally on is that if it bends, you not only are out a rim, but you can often destroy the tire as well. It's a double wammy that just cost you not only the rally, but a $XXX tire. Rally rims aren't too expensive, and are a must for anything but the smoothest of gravel roads. I typically use OEM alloys on winter events, but I highly suggest you budget to get rally rims if you are serious about only spending money once and doing things properly (I'm too cheap to buy cheap parts kind of deal).
