Yeah, I don't really see that. Mechanical, electrical, etc engineering courses are anything but narrow. All that degree does is lay the foundation for someone to go in to a specific field and specialize in it.

Are you still angry over the Pikes Peak evo guys saying an engineer designed their cage? Just because the guy was an engineer doesn't mean he was good at it...There's plenty of shitty doctors, pilots, etc out there too.

It also doesn't mean that cage was ever designed for what it went through...Protecting two occupants while rolling down the side of a mountain. That cage was very clearly intended for a solo driver and a road course with tire/steel barriers.

Oh? They rarely include history, art, painting, music, culture, economics even in the most rudimentary levels, no social studies (which are NOT social sciences) and that MIGHT be a reason many of the typical "gradutes" seem to be a-social idjits with laughable unawareness of the context and meaning of anything..
Like servicablity of the things they design, like cost benefit ratios of things they invent, of any "point" to many "brilliant ideas".

I wasn't angry in the first place..I get angry of things that pysically imperil those i care about. The idiots in the car, the idiots that put the junk together, the idiots who are so stupid they chopped up a good structure, the body shell, too stupid to even begin to glimpse that INTERGRATING the shell and cage structures give a sum that is greater than the two separately, idmeciles like that are as common as shit in the cow field.....They don't affect me or my family or friends, why would I get upset? If they ALL died, there's thousands of identical idiots to take their place.. millions even.. No great loss---obviously THEY didn't care about their own lives. If they don't, Shirley I shouldn't either..

The immediate consequences of slight errors in seeing "The Bigger Picture" are usually more "enlightening" for shitty pilots (they die or come shockingly close to it) or doctors (patients die or come shockingly close to it waking them up), etc..
Lousy, "classic" injur-nears just argue that they "were top of my class " i haz a degree so I know---(even if it's something they have never seen prior, thought about for less than 15 seconds, but oh no, THEY KNOW- because they have a degree in _____)

Ahhhh screw those fools, I said there's a million just like them.

I have said I have worked with and know good, serious engineers. Smart men, clear eye, and able to zoom in to details, and pull back for a wide angle look-see, and who asked questions of those operating the machines they designed ( race motocycles, specifically moto-cross bikes). They made it clear that the subject was THE BIKES, the parts, the gears or forks, not who knows more...

So rare. So refreshing. So enlightening...I am happy to have known them.

One must never, ever, ever dismiss the importance of ...injuneers...no wait I mean shit house luck. PPIHC was shit house luck, nothing more.

Engineers are responsible for the Titanic, The Narrows Bridge, the Vega, the Tempo diesel, the CVT transmission, LP siding, Behr paint, metal on metal hip replacements and a million other fails. We should be thankful the human race has survived Engineering 101.

What's with the hate the engineer band wagon now? I think the problem is the dealings with self proclaimed engineers, or idiots that read Carrol Smith, that think they know it all.

I take it that the engineers at Citroen and VW are real idiots, but the lack of engineering at Msport although with its the long term technicians that have been doing it for 20+ years is whats winning rallies for Ford... Just an example from personal observation.

Also the problem is that at the low end of the stick its the cheap off college kid-gineers that get to design stuff because the seasoned guys are too expensive to pay for.

My first two years of school were identical to engineering majors(I was going to major in M.E. until I fell into my current line of work)...I was required to take various Liberal Arts courses. Communications, Humanities, Fine Arts, and a few electives. The course-load was much more math/science intensive, but there were still plenty of other classes thrown in to the mix. The engineering specific classes don't start until Junior year.

I gained very little from the arts classes. I basically got some more practice at writing about things that I don't give two shits about.

I think economics and business/finance related classes(at least a couple) should be required of all college students seeking an Associates or higher. Those are subjects that everyone will face in the real-world. Film appreciation? Not so much. I don't need to write 5 pages about every shitty movie I see...But I do need to know how basic finance and economics works.

Until I found this site, I thought that the main sponsor of the car in the attached file was very silly. Surely a couple of billboards or TV spots would be more likely to pay off. Now I know that Dr Davis is brilliant.
