I think it's also worth noting that I'm planning on running Group 2. Something about something....dirt. |

So last night, I was at my uncle's house (lives a whole 20 feet away) and he wanted to show me what he's been working on. Turns out he's one of those "Hey, let's make a dune buggy from scratch" kind of guys. That requires skill, a welder, and a tube bender. I asked if he'd help out with my Merkur and he was like "Fuck yeah, bruh!" SCORE!
So now I just need to buy the material, get the specs for the cage and ask you guys what material the cage is going to be made out of. What size tubing is it and and should it be made out of? Something about something....dirt. |

Word. My other uncle is a mechanic and lives a block away so I'll just whip both of them until it's done. Or just ask politely and throw much beer at them.
Yeah, I know not to get creative with a roll cage. I'm not really looking to do anything creative anyway. That's just extra time, money, trouble and more things to go wrong. And I think (hope) he knows that they're different and require different shits and specs and shits. Something about something....dirt. |

This is pretty sound advice. Also, read the rule book. In my opinion (John, I give no shits what you think of it, lol I'll save you the trouble) having to ask what size tubing and what material is a pretty sure sign you HAVEN'T done homework yet... It's clearly spelled out. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

Duly noted.
Okay, I'm going to read the rule book again. I skimmed over it last week but didn't read the roll cage part yet. Something about something....dirt. |

Honestly, right now, read EVERYTHING about car construction multiple times, from beginning to end, read the safety gear/stuff needed part a few times, and then read the WHOLE book a couple of times.
Also, become friends with a scrutineer. They are invaluable. EDIT: Even if for just asking "Is this a terrible idea? Oh, any suggestions?" Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/01/2013 06:04PM by Dazed_Driver. |

De-turbo and then later re-turbo? That sounds like a lot of work. It will be less work to just tow a little further and run some NASA Rally Sport events, we don't have that no-turbo restriction. After three or four events, then you'll be set to run the events close to you. Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |
