95 impreza L open light build..
March 25, 2013 12:32AM
well... it started out life as a 1.8l i picked it up in Utah when i lived there a few years back.. it was to be a rally-X car.. but plans changed when the 1.8 died...

so about the only thing 95L about it is the chassis now days, has 04sti drive line, except for the 5spd and a 06 2.5i harness and engine, and a bunch of TSSFab goodies, and more on the way.. thanks William...

here is a link to the photoBooth build album they are not in the order i uploaded them for some reason..... didnt feel like posting 70+ pics pics here

I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to.

You driven the car yet? Or is it still in the state in the pictures?

If so, how do you like the 2.5i engine? I am thinking of trying to find something like that, combined with a 4.44 drivetrain for a good OL setup.

When are you planning for your first event?

car has not been driven... its getting close but its still sitting like the pics with no hood or fenders.. its been a few year project, its important, but kids, family, work, other customer's paying projects take precedent over going to work on MY car...pretty much in that order... exhaust is scheduled for this weekend, if the snow melts and i can get to my trailor that is... last i checked it was hidden under a 5 ft drift behind the barn

a 4:44 set up is pretty easy.. u just need to rob a front ring and pinion outta an autotragic and the full rear end in a junk yard.... ohh.. and of course install it...

first event is not planned... it will be whenever the car is done... ill prolly do nemadji first.. if they ever get their shizz together and post up a schedule this year... needs to get tooned, and broke in b4 any racing tho...

i do have a stock 07 2.5i thats my daily driver.. lol.. 3.90s and full 3100 lbs.. its quick... so i imagine this car at 2400 ish or so lbs, 4.44 and the custom delta rally cams (torqe grind.. cuz F horsey's) should pull pretty well its a 170h/174ft lb engine stock...

any idea what justin prichard is running in his car? or is he just that fast of a driver?

Tyler aka FunctionAuto probably knows what's in Pritchard's as he drove it before.
But he is stupid fast.
Your setup will likely be similar in power range. Though I will say your 2400 lb guess is maybe a bit too light.

Yea, 2400 is wayyyyy too optimistic. My car is around 2800lbs, most RS's are in around the same or slightly under. I know Tyler got his down to 2600lbs with a TON of weight reduction being done.

I'd prefer the HP cams, as that is what I have on my car. Really comes on above 3500rpms and pulls all the way to redline, and redline is where most of the time is spent. Especially with a shorter gearing you aren't really going to drop under 4000.

I know pritchard is running an STI driveline with some crazy differential mapping, and he claims to have a "tired old engine" in it, but I've seen how quick that thing launches.... there is something in there, ha.

um.. the 1995 impreza L awd has a 2475lb curb weight according to edmunds.... scroll down and see

and i weighed almost everything i took off/out to be around 300 lbs if i recall correctly.. and there were bits that i forgot.. like all the ABS and airbag wiring, the 3 rear glass that are now Lexan...

Right, but then you are adding the rollcage, the 6-speed weighs a decent amount, then fire extinquishers, impact gun, jack, fullsized spare tire, fuel, seats, etc.

All that adds up. When I mention 2800lbs, that's full rally ready to attack a full on race. Not stripped down, near empty fuel tank, no spares, no tools, etc.

Right, but then you are adding the rollcage, 1.75x.120 is 2.085 lb a ft, 1.5x.095 is 1.43 lb a ft the 6-speed weighs a decent amount, im running a 5spd, then fire extinquishers, impact gun, jack, fullsized spare tire, fuel, seats, etc.

i cant find the 2001 rs weight, but the 2000 is 2820, so he is down 220lbs.. is that in race trim?

depending on which version of legacy you have, the L weighed 2730, the sport weighed 3100 from edmunds.. so your either running 70 lbs heavier with everything, or 300 lbs lighter.... yours started out life as a turbo sport...right?

my original comment of "2400ish or so" was based off the stock curb weight. im none to concerned at what it will weigh.. cuz it will be what it be-s... tell ya what, i'll go weigh it in full trim once its done, and let ya know.. they weigh them at tech anyway..right?

You can jump on the scales if you want. They'll weigh them for Open Class cars, but OL is no weight restriction (for now).

Mine started out as a Sport turbo, so weighed 3100 pounds thanks to the AWD, turbo, and full interior.

So yea, after a full rollcage, some weight reductions, and in full race trim, lost 300 lbs on the production car.

Eh, can theorize and guess all we want (I'm pretty sure that edmunds figure is for a FWD version). But won't really know till you toss it on the scales, and even then, won't even notice 100lb difference during your first few rallies.

Lots to learn!

Keep dreaming, you won't get it that light. I've built a really light GC8, I think it came in somewhere around 2700, I don't remember. You're not going to get 2400, in any case.

Din't WarrryAmelica make Open min weight 2900 because they said FIA 1230kg would force people to resort to use safe means to get the weight down.
1230kg is 2705 lbs.

Hurst said everything after GC8s were around 3000-3175lb
