Interesting build, my bother and his wife have had a Justy sense it was knew in '03. He loves that thing. Brings it in town acouple of times a year and we look it over, fix what needs done and he drives it the 525 miles back to D.C.. Have seen afew run thru the local parts yard, tried to buy both of them but the yard won't sell the whole car once it hits the yard. Should have bought the motor out of one just to have for a spare, but doubt his will ever die. Good luck with it.

why yes, yes it is... 69 B GT, found in Seattle, acquired with 4 hours of tree work, and road worthy after replacing all the hydraulics. does regular long trips including late night runs through northern Ontario wearing a set of "big knicks"... needs a frigging overdrive transmission or a complete motor swap to make it a highway star. I keep thinking 2.5 duratec but then love the British rumble everytime I start it.

I have a '73 B GT I also bought in Seattle, back in '86. In '87 the engine came unglued
and pissed me right off. I found a '73 Capri with a 2.6L V6/slush box for $300. After
about week of mucking about it was back on the road. The 2.6L died a horific death
in '93, and it's been tucked away in the garage ever since... I really should do something
with it, but have a few too many things on my plate just now...

Okay,

Next nerdy question...

So I sourced an "oil cooler" from the rally car parts warehouse the other day, a nice transmission cooler from a 200X ford ranger, I liked the mounts, and it was easy to get...

Then I got home...

and thought, hmmm this has 7mm lines, everyone talks about using AN-8 for oil coolers... but the Justy is tiny, but I have oiling problems... the main oil gallery line from the pump to the filter is 9mm... I should ask my Dad (a commercial pumping engineer), but that will get to complicated... I should just buy a real oil cooler...

Then my head exploded and I got another beer, and calmed down.

So, my question,

Am I over thinking that a tranny cooler with a 7mm inlet and obvioulsy 8mm or so rubber lines is going to restrict flow too much, or just bolt this thing up and shut up?

Thanks again... smiling smiley back to beer winking smiley

I would worry more about the restrictive-ness of the cooler guts itself, before the lines. Others should chime in here, but the viscosity of ATF differs significantly from that of your average 10w30 engine oil...

I've never talked about -8. -10 is industry standard. Don't listen to anything anybody says if they don't say -10.

Pumping losses is a function of size and distance..don't force it to go long distance and to pump against a small hole.

Be careful when you weld the AN fittings onto the cooler...you are welding the fittings on, aren't you?

I'd weld them first, then drill right down the center of the fitting---bit flues filled with grease to catch the swarf.

Hmmm

I honestly hadn't thought of adding larger fittings, as I assumed the flow rate through the cooler would be similarily restrictive...

Here's a pic

I certainly could cut off the current barbs and add something...

I also have a toyota corrolla oil cooler (stacked type) with a broken barb, I could add larger lines to that...

Oh yeah, and I understand the pumping loss stuff, distance, size, friction loss, yadda yadda, or well I don't understand them like an engineer, but I get the general idea. My retired father's licence plate reads "NPSH A"

Or buy/find one with larger fittings....

Hmmm

Your retire father?
You have another? Like an active one?
And "NPSH"? Nazi Polizei Scheisse Homosexuelle, Arschloch"? "Naughty Perverse Silly Hoon, eh "?

I don't think the flow thru the element would be bad...elemets are raw material, fittings done to application..

I buy -10 alloy plugs for like $1.89, weld them then drill thru..

Here's from 7 years ago:

Those are my ol' fave Volvo turbo coolers...They have some dump BSPP, so I hack them off brutally, laughing maniacally as I do.

One more thing...

Will standard garden hose work? Braided AN lines are pricey! winking smiley

Joking about the garden hose! (sort of...)
