Does your hood scoop direct air in or pull air out of the underhood area? Can't quite tell form the pics...

It's intended to pull air out.

Nice. Enlightening as well. Something that I have wondered at ever since I saw a NACA for the first time.

timing map has been altered to a more "stock" like configuration. Ill see how that changes things.

Could be a moot point all this wadiator stuffs. Telephone tuning we found he has some outrageous ignition advance he found talking on some forum. Like 50o advance, and oddly in addition to big heat , the car is a huge dog..

HOLY CRAP

Yeah, get that f'er down to something like 25 at atmospheric and work UP from there, just make it flat relative to manifold pressure before playing with adding some timing at light load...

50 degrees is okay at maybe 3000rpm and 10kpa, like when you have negative load on the engine...

well its retuned with some normal figures. Still runs hot. This morning (72 going to work, low humidity) i was a touch over 210 crusing on the freeway at 70mph.

Also, yesterday, the car refused to run properly when i got back from work. it was about 100 outside and my windows were up. Ran extremely lean and would hold at idle but nearly 17:1 or higher afr and would almost lean out to stall, (or actually stall / hesistate) while applying throttle at any rate of speed. Does having the fuel lines in your car (and in direct sunlight in the hatch...) create vapor lock in the lines? She ran fine a couple hours later after being in the shade.

Still sounds like a system capacity issue. Did you check for cold spots? Fuel lines in the car don't really get any hotter than ones under the car getting reflected heat from asphalt ( I think ). Also sounds like maybe a temp sensor is leaning it out too much.

You have some funky temp trims in the calibration file? Sometimes even a "proper" 2D air temp comp can screw you during heat soak as the temp sensor is artificially high.

Some good advice here on the cooling system, but we need to also get an actual tune up in that thing instead of guessing where it all should be. I may be up in Boisex later this month tuning a couple cars and we can definitely help give yours a look and see what's going on. At least see if some of the issues are in the file or the car itself.

john, that would outstanding!!!

also i checked the radiator with an infrared laser. Now hot spots. Hottest point is at the entry area, then it drops by about 40 degrees through the entire radiator, rather evenly.

That doesn't sound right. Should be hot across the top and then cooler as it goes lower. Do you have a different rad to try? Even a 10/15% blockage is enough to make it run hotter than it should.

What is the temp of the bottom hose ?

Are you driving all the way to work or just to pickup the van? My truck is just sitting if you need it.

all the way...which is crazy far.

anyway, car did it "its hot outside, so now im going to run super lean and not be driveable past hardly idle at 17:1 + afrs...."

and now im stuck at work to boot. My guess is something in the way i have my fuel system ran...
