Anyone uses Terratrip GeoTrip Rally Computers ?
July 08, 2013 12:30PM
Does anybody use GeoTrip - GPS- capable Terratrip computers? They are fairly new, but very popular in Europe.
I/m wondersing how is GPS reception if you in deep forest - like STPR or Oregon or 1000 Acres?
I want to try, but need opinions of others. Most of the time teams use regular 303 or 202 probe based

no experience, but from their online info
Quote

. . . if GPS signal is lost due to a tunnel or similar, then the probe will automatically take over. If no mechanical probe and GPS signal is lost, then the unit will estimate the distance travelled when signal is re-gained.

Sounds like Garmin's old "dead reckoning" system where it falls back to mechanical means when the GPS signal is lost, and if there's no machanical to fall back on it assumes a constant speed until it picks up signal again.

wondering how strong is the GPS receiver... they say it's better than regular GPS.
Would be nice to have an accurante milage so the co-driver wouldn't have to adjust mid-stage for a wheel spin.

I know ACP uses a GPS sender for his rally odo in the Scion. I'm not sure if it is the Terratrip or a Coralba unit, but he says it's all he'd ever need, and makes for easy installation in a recce car.

I've never used one, but am seriously considering it.

I have used a regular garmin thing in a few rally cars when the odo and speedo weren't working. Reception was fine in the woods for OTR, Prescott, and Olympus 2010. If the gps is as good or better then the regular garmin gps unit I'd say it should work nice.

Monit makes one with gps too, hmm. My car has a spotty speedo and no rally computer. I'm going to do some more reading.

Monit looks very cool. P-Sport is the only distributor in USA. I looked at Canadian web site Monit G100 - 590.

Monit even makes a kit for a recce car with 12v plug and suction cup mount. http://www.nickygrist.com/monit-recce-tripmeter-mount-1191-p.asp

They are expensive though.

www.subesports.com have all models - they are cheapest.
Rally lights and P-sport also have those.

I just saw onboard from Baja 1000 trucks - they have a GPS based computers, which actually showes a pictures of the road ahead. That would be helpfull for the beginers. My first rally STPR 60% of the stages I was driving without notes - by vision into unknown. Having a picture on the GPS would decrease " ops-I-crap-my pants- factor", and increase avarage speed.

Keith, Canada is expensive so that is unlikely an option. Alex, I try to stay away from subesports. Just from one personal experience.

I will check out P-Sport but rallylights.com doesn't have the geotrip 202 on their site.

Demon Tweeks or Rally Nuts.

Though if looking at Peltor, Subesports retail used to be less than my wholesale from Europe.
