Check out Dave's Evo build on how to fill it in first with Bondo, Lay fiberglass over the entire side of the car to make a mold, then use that to make a carbon fiber quarter. Then you can cut all the sheet metal off and lose like 10 pounds off the car! If you wanna get really crazy, use combine with the spray foam idea to make it widebody!

That sounds too simple to work.

I'll file that away for when it comes time to shave pounds from the GTI. New goal for the car is AWD and sub-1900lb.

Hey Andrew, I was speaking with Jim Pierce and he mentioned you by name as someone who has done their share of reshells. smiling smiley And Billy, I followed your body work on FB. You did a great job.

For me, Jim has a guy who can do it for me. Given my life situation, work + kid + just completed a Corrado restore, I'm really hoping the body shop guy is economical. And Grant is right, 40/40!

I've done metal fab/body work for 10+ years and I agree with the above post: slide hammer it out a bit, pound it out from the back a bit, and then skim it with bondo to make it presentable at 40/40 and be done. For that door jam, get in the back seat with a piece of 2x4 or better yet a thick piece of oak, sand/file it to fit nicely and put it against the back side of the door jam and hammer the wood to drive it back out a bit. It's going to take some real hammering, but it should move a bit.
Drive it down to my house with the passenger seat out and I can probably get it pounded out so you can bondo it in about an hour.
*edit* you'll probably have to pull that filler neck too so that the metal in that area will move. Might be a little bit of a bitch to get it lined back up.

Guess I'll beat on it a bit and see what I can do. Can't make it any worse. There are some sharp creases, especially on the c-pilar which will be tough to smooth out. We'll see.

cut lexan to fit the new window opening, slap some fresh paint and vinyl over the scrapes and I'd call it 40/40 good.
