Checking compression and leak down tonight.

Any idea on a way to check valve seals without pulling apart stuff? I suppose I'll just check the service manual when I get home regardless.

But my preferred order of diagnosis is, compression and leak down, valve seals, turbo.

Can't recall, but what have you done to augment crankcase ventilation?

I've got 3/8" hose off the PCV into a three way, with the breather off the valve cover into that, then over to the side and a little filter on the top of it.

Yumper was 2650 loaded. Leonard's car is like 2200 or something like that.

Video from testing today!
April 27, 2008 07:46PM
Only got about 10 miles on the track. First run I fucked up on a hairpin, spun, and dove straight into the biggest, hardest berm on the course. Glad my bumper cover is only $35 to replace. Luckily no one ran it over before we went to retreive it. Ended up breaking a halfshaft though and drove it the 60 miles back to town in one wheel drive. All in all a good day though. I'm happy with the brake bias, the power and gearbox feel awesome (though I'm still smoking and the gearbox is leaking fluid a bit.) Shifter knob came off both times I went out in the car as well. I had a tendency to overdo it in the tighter corners and I still hate hairpins. Took it easy through all of them after my bumper incident. Had a few moments. I still think the bottom of the hill corner can be taken at the top of 3rd without lifting or braking, just have to find the right line.

You can readily find a front bumper cover for $35? Buy like 10 now!

Looks like you had fun though! Car looks great. Why do you think you broke the half shaft?

Mk3 Jetta bumper cover from Certifit. The stock front bumper and dual rear windows and dual spoiler were absolute musts to make me not puke a bit in my mouth every time I walked up to the car.

Welded rear diff, 22 year old CVs, too much traction on the severely blue grooved surface. In the first shot, the very last corner in that shot is where I broke it. On a later run of course. I was finally a bit inside instead of way out in the soft stuff and full throttle at the near top of second gear. It's hard packed dirt that you can see rubber on.

That's the way our "rallycross park" gets. If it's not muddy then you hear tire squeal.

Fucking $100 per to rebuild them, and all four need rebuilt. Fucking stupid. I hate rally cars. I sometimes honestly think about racing a few events, selling this car, and finding a hobby that doesn't leech off every dollar. $130 battery, $400 halfshafts, $400 in tires, $$ in fire extinguishers, $230 for skid plate, and the list just goes on and on and fucking on.

Yup, and wait till the safety equipment expires and is no good after only using it a few times.

One more Milestone for Grant.

Finished his first full speed event this weekend and only sucked a little!

Just messing with you Grant, I was stoked to see you finish the event!
