Seen anything similar to this?

Okay, working on slider mechanism in chumpcar.
Right now we have two 1" diameter rails that run parallel to tunnel.
There are four 1.25x0.120 tubes that ride on these rails with brackets off the side and weld nuts for seat brackets and one has a locking pin for securing seat.
Any corrosion and they will be stuck forever. One is already stuck.
Was thinking a split pillow mount would be perfect, use a plastic or bronze bushing so that it wouldn't be steel on steel. Split design would allow easy replacement and lubricating.
This is the only one even similar that I can find looking around at usual places.

Wish we had more machining capacity so we could just make them ourselves.
Other option would be to cut out rails and do something really cool like a linear bearing pillow mount.

Cut some 'teflon' blocks, drill the correct diameter hole in the center to fit you tubes, you could even split them. Cut a groove around them that you could fit an exhaust clamp, say 1.5 or 1.75. Put a steel plate on top of the block, fasten the muffler clamp thru the plate, bolt the plate to the seat frame. Or you could just use flat plates top and bottom with thru bolts. Never sieze is always a good idea.

Holy! They want $890 a piece for the linked items! Thanks for the idea Gene. Hadn't thought to use Nylon or Teflon. Version 2.0 percolating...

Okay, got a few feet of MDS injected Nylon in 1.375" diameter. Wish I had a lathe... Hmmm, 20% off Harbor Freight coupon sitting here.
Was thinking maybe just cut with bandsaw into 3-4" lengths and cut 1" interior with hole saw or drill.

Use the dropdown on the left:

Round UHMW tube w/1" thru-hole, sold in 1'-5' lengths.

1-3/8" OD - PN 8705K72 $7.87/ft
1-1/2" OD - PN 8705K14 $7.87/ft
2" OD - PN 8705K73 $22.34/ft

Not really seeing exactly what you're after, but without a lathe available, it's the easiest way to obtain something like this with a concentric hole. And keep from zorchin' yourself with a holesaw....

What the shit. I looked for tube in a hard plastic all over the place. How's UHMV going to perform as a bushing though is my main concern. Isn't it pretty soft, or am I thinking of something else?

Should be fine. Remember, .010" play at the rail = quite a bit more at the top of the seat.

Well, maybe I'll try both. I think I know a guy with a lathe I can use. I'll order some UHMV on Friday when I get paid. Just spent my last $30 on food for the family to get through the week. Student salary sucks, PhD program starts tomorrow and got a offer on a nearly six figure position elsewhere. Ironically right now I'll take 1/4 the pay in exchange for getting to spend as much time as I do with my daughter. Doh, off topic.

So, here was V1 which works but any corrosion and we're fucked. Steel on steel.
Found a friend that can machine this 2' piece of nylon into bushings but not til end of month for V2.

Anyone have any suggestions for lubrication on the steel on steel version? Chump race in 10 days. Figure will leave it alone and clean and lube on day of race. Something that doesn't collect dust and such would be good.

Graphite?

Or better, get some silicone spray. It does not attract stuff after it dries. I use this on the bottom of my daughters' sleds - no one else's are nearly as fast - and used it on their swing set slide when they were younger with great results.

Graphite spray lube. Grainger, McMaster, Better hardware stores everywhere. Might even be a few chain auto-stores.
