Scrutinnering questions ?
November 07, 2007 10:59AM
Hi all,

Many of you know me , some don't. I'm the Chief Scrutineer for Pacific Rally Group. I'm both NASA and Rally America. I'm the guy with the logbooks. I had a long talk with my old nemisis/friend JVL yesterday ( does anyone ever have a short talk with him?? ) He asked about logging a couple of cars you career builders have going winking smiley. I can travel north for expenses, you can come south or I'll meet you in the middle. I will do everything possible to get your cars logged and through tech. No rally cars=no rally ! I will gladly try to explain what and why, my lame ideas and share the experience of over 30 years of racing experience. I will not take a lot of personal heat over sanctioning body rules ( unless I helped make them ...)

I'm here to help you, keep you safe, keep my organizers happy and see the sanctioning body rules enforced, usually with a smile and a smart assed wise crack, but I do have grumpy days ( or so I've been told ).

Gene I'll be giving you a call in a couple months to get mine logbooked smiling smiley

But to get the questions out there:

What's the minimum required to get the car logbooked? Rollcage, seats, and belts? Roll cage padding?

Depends on which logbook....RA I need seats and belts in, NASA I can do with the cage alone.

So Gene you and John are working at mending fences are you? Something funny must be in the water down yonder.

Gene where can I scare up NASA rules so that I can be sure that the Volvo is NASA legal for Doo-Wops?

I'm beavering away at getting the Volvo good and ready for Doo-Wops. I'm trying to get Ray to commit to riding in the seat of terror.

John,
Rules should be at this link .

Yup, JVL and I have mended fences...was never all that bad...we never hit each other with the fence boards anyway smiling smiley. Waxing philosophical here...as the calendar pages have piled on and the hairs fallen off I learned the journey is more important than the destination. Any feuding, perceived or actual, was probably mostly my fault anyway..and the stupid old North/South feud that some organizers used to foster...we both love rally, 2wd cars and spend lot's of time helping people get involved. We're a lot alike 'cept I'm better looking and nicer...

Ray told me you asked him. I think he's leaning towards doing so. You have a SCCA logbook, so seats don't have to be FIA. Belts, helmets and firesuits need to be legal. Have at least a sill bar ( should have that already ). Proper padding, SFI or FIA where the helmets can touch. Should be the worst of it. You can always call me if questions arise.

As I don't control the rules, and the "target" keeps moving I wouldn't wait forever. Both NASA and RA do consider cars under constuction , but at some point any cage/car could be far enough from the current standard to need serious mods.

Yes of course, I guess I was saying that I could get an NASA book now instead of waiting till I get some seats and belts in.

What's the best way to get this scheduled, give you a call?

Gene, you were grumpy 15 years ago but these days you've mellowed out into a warm fuzzy teddy bear. Well by comparison, anyway.

I'm sure JVL would do that, if there was a chance to bury the hatchet..in Kurt's head...

And the world will explode when JVL and Pete "rallytaff" Morris team up together in a rally car!
