Open Class GC8

The car was completed in 2008 and ran 2 rallies, North Nevada and Idaho. Overall win at North Nevada and was leading Idaho going into the last stage but ended up with a DNF due to blown motor (driver error). The new motor is being tuned this month.

More pictures here: http://www.universalrally.com/5.html

The shell started life as a clean 1995 4 Door Impreza shell with a clear California title. It went through the following:

- Completely stripped and cleaned
- Sounded deadening material and all seam sealer removed
- Completely seam welded and re-sealed
- Safety Devices Cage installed (with FIA Homo papers)
- Strut Tops reinforced
- Side jack stand ports installed
- Painted inside and out on a rotisserie

Engine Specs (fresh build):
- 2.2l closed decked block stroked to 2.35l
- 10.5:1 Compression pistons (CP’s w/ side coating)
- H Beam Rods and all ARP hardware
- GT2871 Turbo w/ custom restrictor
- Custom Up-pipe w/ Swaintech coating
- Ported and coated exhaust manifold w/ larger cross pipe
- Motec ECU w/ mil-spec harness tuned for E-85 by Road Race Engineering. Advanced tuning is enabled on ECU
- Rotated intake (Swaintech coated) w/ custom front mount intercooler
- Ported and coated exhaust manifold w/ larger cross over pipe
- 850cc injectors w/ twin in-line pumps
- Stainless exhaust all v-bands w/ metal cat at the rear of the car
- Tial BOV

Drivetrain:
- '05 STI tranny w/ 3.90 Diff / matching rear diff
- Gems Center Diff Controller w/ software dongle (latest version) allowing you to change maps!
- STI engine mounts
- STI Tranny and Pitch mount

Suspension Specs:
- Bilstein/Prodrive 50mm Gravel Dampers (Oil Cooled), fresh rebuild and lots of spares
- Front camber/caster plates
- Rear Sub-frame powder coated
- Cro-moly adjustable lateral links
- STI Bushing kit
- Aluminum Front Control Arms
- R180 Rear Diff
- R180 Axles
- 4pot front and 2 pot rear brakes
- STI LCA bushings

Interior Specs:
- RaceTech 4009 Head Restraint Seats
- RaceTech Harnesses
- Custom flocked dash
- AP hand brake w/ custom carbon handle
- AIM Dash Display
- Custom Carbon center and tunnel console
- Carbon front and rear door cards
- Carbon driver floor
- Carbon co-driver floor
- Heatercraft heater (currently removed for summer events)
- 1 handheld fire bottle and 1 manual plumbed fire system
- Entire car was re-wired with proper plugs and push button resettable fuses

Exterior Specs:
- Fresh paint
- Aluminum STI Hood
- STI v4 Front Bumper
- STI Front and Rear lightweight bumper beams
- Carbon Mirrors GRA Mirrors
- Gr N roof vent
- Hood and bumper pods w/ all HID’s
- Kevlar gas tank guard
- Kevlar Sill guards
- Aluminum rear diff guard
- Aluminum Sump guard

There’s a lot more parts and customization that I can’t recall but when you see the car it becomes obvious. There are some random spares, including a 4.44 R180 Rear Diff.

Anyone who has seen this car knows the level and quality of the build that went into it. It took me over 5 years to complete and pile of money!! The only thing that would make this car faster on stage would be a dog box. It is capable of winning any Regional rally overall and can top 5 any National event.

Car is being run at the 2009 North Nevada Rally and Idaho Rally. It will be available Aug 1st. There’s no excuses in this car!

$37,000

Andrew-

This car is really beautiful!

Does the Heatercraft heater work OK? Is is this model: http://www.heatercraft.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=1006H ?

Do you have it routed only onto the windscreen, or is there an easy way to redirect (ie to feet or something in case of really cold conditions)?

Thanks,
Doug

Doug - Thanks for the kind words. I spent the last two days putting the car back together and I'm really going to miss it when it goes.

The heatercraft model I have is different than the one you posted. I actually called Heatercraft and they told me that the unit sold by Summit is built by them.

It's this one:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D991102&N=700+115&autoview=sku

I plumbed both of the ports to the windshield. I installed one in the SRT-4 and the Subie, they work great!! You can run a splitter (Y) if you wanted to direct the heat to other parts of the cabin.

oh yeah..it's about 8lbs.

SRT-4 Install (ignore the temporary wiring clutter and ghetto duct tape!)

Thanks for the info and photo, Andrew. Looks like a nice, clean install. We're keeping the stock dash, but I took a look at the heater core, venting, fan crap and it's just too big and heavy and more than we need (and we don't own it now), so it makes sense to go with something like this.

Good luck at NNR and Idaho!

spacers haven't made their way into the car yet...but it's on my to-do list! After Idaho, I have some other tasks to take care of first...
