Grant, why to built a lame and heavy US spec 242GT when you can get hotter from Canada? A regular basement model's closer to the Euro spec 242GT than this! Performance head & cam and more HP than any US model, including turbo...
There's nothing special on the US 242GT.. specially on '80-up. 1978-79 had better suspension & bars but res is bone stock except ugly interior colours.

The picture of the damaged door clearly shows that it car has dual door bars and how well they work in a side impact. Interesting that they did not become mandatory for all cars in the US until later(very late 80s).

This is a good enough reason for me :

Canadian GT :


US (California) GT :


The first one is a friend's car and the second one is mine. I absolutely hate rust and now I'm starting to love the faded paint on my car! It's 1,000,000 times better than having a shinny paint and rusty floors.
