You will certainly have more fun, and have a better car and have a better chance at competitive results if you kept the Fucked-us as a daily driver and just added suspension and an intercooler to an Xratty as a rally car.
At least with an Xratty you have more than enough BHP and torque to move the car well, the basis for a stronger motor, and the ability to affordably swap in an alternate gearbox, alternate ratio diff and a LSD for a couple or 3 hundred bucks here and there rather than thousands and thousands.
Suspension costs the same for either (indeed it can nearly interchange), so it becomes a question of EVENTUALLY the cost of better "downstream" driveline costs.
