WTB a daily driver
December 08, 2013 02:57AM
A teenager smashed my dear e30 to "Grp 2 candidate" status

Looking for a DD, top of my budget is 6k Ideally looking to spend half that and spend the rest on the rally's next year. Not in a hurry, must be west coast rust free!

John, got your link just after it was either removed or sold..

Nevermind bought this little 16v 2.0 jobbie... Nary a spec of rust, not even under the battery, or the hatch or anywhere else!

No kidding. It has 4 wheel discs, blueprint and balance paperwork anf 10 years of receipts

I'm really curious as to what the gear ratios are. 1-4 only drops 6-800 rpm between shifts and 5 seems good to about 200 mph ( or so it feels)

The 020 is notoriously low geared. Mine turns about 3500 at 65 with the standard 16v gti transmission.
Once you stiffen them up a bit they get really fun. Front wheel drive drift machines, which also means they can get super sketchy!

Have fun!

Who can say wif VW cause there's a variety of 1-4 sets inside the box and 5th hangs on the ends of the shaft outside and there is a ton of possibilities there---in that respect its kinda like the T5 I lurv so much that it can be short 1-4 (overall0 and still if a guy gigs around there's crazy overdrives..
The thing for you coming from like Audis and Bummers is the things run a tiny wheels so its a factor in the overall gearing..
But before you worry about that you have to paint those invisible Black Holes so color so people can see there's wheels, not just some formless void..I'd say white to go wif the rest of the white-out look.

Oh, and round headlights. Gotta get round headlights.

5th gear at 75 was 3100-3200 rpms on the drive home this morning, wheras 4th at 65 is at like 4800 rpms

I don't remember 1-4 being that short.

John, I'm sure I'll find some nicer wheels for it, these where the only ones the owner would let go, and not gonna a do a round eye or anything silly. I've got a rally car to spend money on. (though they do look good)
