VW Solid Lifter Buckets
December 20, 2013 03:45PM
I'm in need of a set... I have a full shim kit but no buckets anymore (and to think i used to have a bucket of buckets)

This is to help convert my GF's hillclimb mk2 Jetta with an aba swap to solidlifter and a nasty little solid lifter cam I have for it.

And yes I have done all my home work on it... someone made this cam with a nice reduced base circle :-D

pics cause pics

What base circle is your new cam?
Hydro std is 34mm, Shim type std and most aftermarket are 38mm, but some drop to 36mm.

If it is 36mm then you could gut your hydro tappets and install a solid piece that can be ground to give correct valve clearance.

You will not manage to use OEM shim buckets with a shim on top as they do not add up to the same internal height as the hydro followers.

Make sure the cam end float controlling section at the gearbox end clears the head properly, I have found some cam types contact the head. Compare OD at the end of the new cam with original cam to be sure.

EDIT, Re-read your post, are you using the ABA bottom end with a counterflow solid lifter head, or the ABA crossflow hydro head?

Disappointingly not yet a Jackass

Are you looking for standard lifters? or shim-under-bucket style lifters?

I have standard mechanical lifters for $12.50 ea.
and shim-under-bucket style for $18.00 ea.

If i had seen this sooner, i would have replied sooner.

Best,
