WTB any rallyx vehicle
May 09, 2014 08:39AM
Didnt see a buyers section so i hope this is acceptable, but i have been looking to buy any vehicle that would be a decent rallyx starter for awhile but cant seem to find anything mechanically sound in my area. I live in northern West Virginia and have a budget of about 2k. 1500 would be nicer since ill have to get decent tires and it might require some work. Just want a nimble 5spd vehicle that is mechanically sound. Let me know if anyone has anything theyd like to get rid of anywhere close to me. Thanks guys

1991 volvo 240 - $900 (patterson hights)

1991 volvo 240 odometer: 178000 manual transmission title : clean
1991 240dl for sale. needs exhaust repaired at y pipe connection to catalytic converter and speedometer stopped at 178,000 miles . i do not have the time to fix this car up. the car needs some TLC to pass inspection. this could be a great car with a little of fixing up. asking 900.00 OBO.

Remember, no matter what you do to that little Honja, it will never be able to do this:

Never.

And that ^ above is the essence of what we try to do..

By the way there something somewhere that says READ THIS FIRST NOOB...Find it and read, it 'splains why we want and require real names and real locations here, m'kay?

Here's one with snow tires...great for rallyx.

Although John's approach is good if you want something that can eventually do more than chase cones on grass.

Yeah can't hurt. ANYTHING will do for grass-o-cross....anything with any suspension and any gearing... The biggest deal is to not over-drive, just cruise around and don't fuck up....
So like von Kessler even suggested a BMW could do just fine...
The difference is when the bug bites and the urge to go out into the woods strikes and you begin to think of actual rally and an actual rally car......THEN you have to think of the cost of upgrading things as you progressively get better and/or want to have more fun...

Then the idea that Volvo made millions of the same cars from 1975 thru 1992 or 93 weighs one thing---and BMW made dozens of different models, shorter runs of any model, dozens of different diffs and different diff mountings, all kinds of different motors, a million different windshields and doors...then it becomes more difficult to find stuff that you will bend and break and if its more difficult, its more 'spensive...

And that's not even thinking about their preference for 6 cylinder motors most of which are fairly weak in the vital torque department (which since they really make cars for the German roads means no biggie, stick it in 5th and cruise...torque isn't as important to them---but it is to us) and their perfect for them gearbox ratios (but we don't cruise for hours at 120mph and UP), but crappy for us....

So for now it doesn't matter what you get. But a smart person would think if the future and think of something you can afford-ably upgrade..

Note; there's ben a lotta buzz around here about newer 1995 model 3.0 BMWs with the 24v motor with 240 hp stock.....nice cars, (not my taste) but go on http://www.adhuntr.com/ and look at the average range of prices for those models and you'll see they're between $5000 and $11,000....
Dunno bout you but that's more money that I would wanna pay for sumpin I'm planning on pounding the shit outta on a field or a gravel road....

Here: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/4460665861.html Lexinton KY '93 $700
http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/4461036613.html Cincinnati, OH '88 $1350
http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/4460803052.html Central NJ '87 $800

Try that to find a BMW that you can make get out of its own way.... 7, or 8 or 10 times more.
