I do not own this car, but I saw it and thought it was pretty cool project for someone with the time and energy to put into it.

The engine is running low compression due to the fact the fan shroud is to large and the carbs will not seat correctly and the compression rings are possibly the wrong size.

I always liked (the look and idea of) Baja bugs....drove my buddies a couple times in high school.

I just don't fit in beetles worth a damn - one of the most akward feeling driving experiences I've ever felt-the seating position-dash-windshield -pedals, and spacing-just crap-just not for me......

Besides the obvious issues Bob just quoted above...first problem I see with this car for sale is an exhaust system I'd probably knock off it just going to work in the car,and that superfluous "0" at the end of the asking price.....

I dont even understand how you can get compression rings in the wrong size. Seriously, measure the bore in the cylinder, then either get a bigger then stock piston or sleeve it and don't just guess on the ring size. And the carbs not seating correctly wouldn't cause a compression issue, but something dealing with fueling right?

This would be a cool toy if it's street legal and just to play with but not race in the rallys. Maybe a rallycross or two, but I wouldn't run it in a rally just because of the reliability to it.
