So, got the donor car stripped and mostly sold off. Finally got to drag the chassis out for the scrappers to devour and pushed the 4k out from the back of the shop. Cars getting an I5 20vt(aan) out of another urs4 I picked up for an awesome price, just for this swap. Also putting the 01e trans in as well. Have ordered a bunch of parts, still waiting on a few more, BUT work has started again on this hoopty.
Work so far has been just cutting out the old seat mounts. I ordered a pair of corbeaus and decided to side mount em. Waiting on mounts. Getting the seats mounted is priority number one right now so I can mount the handbrake and shifter. Waiting on trans mounts, once those come in I can get the engine set in and start building shit. Who knows how long on the trans mounts so more than likely will get the seats mounted with the shifter and brake " roughed" in. If that's the scenerio, Ill start on body work. Little bits of rust here and there need some attention. Plan is to have the car running this summer, painted and ready to drive onto a trailer for our cross country move next year. Will prob sit again on the back burner(probably not....) while we get our shit together. Oh yeah! Were moving to Idaho next summer. Cars pretty much starting from square one. Yeeeeay. |

Soooo.... Last spring got started working on this thing again. Got a bunch of trans stuff done and then had a baby as well as a beaut of a street 4k(project) fell into my lap. My summer and fall was spent consumed with family and that black car. Lots of work on both fronts and while family "work" is ever ongoing, the black street car is about done. At least for winter. Works beginning on this rally pig again. I ditched the AAN in favor of a 1.8t due to cost and chassis balance. I'm just going to do a big photo dump here now and I'll do a write up later. Maybe.

Thanks guys. I got sick of crawling in and out from under the car trying to make the trans fit, so I just cut the tunnel so I could see what needed clearancing. I ended up being able to move everything back a little bit too. Had I not cut apart the tunnel when I had the shifter box setup from the 01a trans prior, I would have used the factory shift setup and Irozs shift linkage bits for this 01e.

That's what I was thinking about that huge and doubtless 'spensive radiator. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

Oh gosh no. I just wanted to see what they looked like. John, that radiator is probably about the same total size as what Vittorio runs in his 5 cyl. Cost was about $170. |

If you genericize the radiator, there are lots of World-Class parts (hecho in China) for under $200 at SummiJegs. Really, the inexpensive racing rads suck less than most of the pick-n-pull stuff for the money and time invested. Andrew Steere Lyndeborough, NH KB1PJY |

Fer sure thatäs become the case for the Xratties since 900 Saabs have virtually evaporated.. Thing is the Merikun street scene ytype approach to cap and overflow/catch can makes me shudder compared to the much smrater-er Volvo/900/later VAG routing ya know? Basically 5/16th hose out the top to expansion/de-gas/catch tank top, and then the 5/8 hose coming off the bottom routed to a T on the heater core return..bar none that's the best-est way to route things...Tank as highest point for the simplest air bleed of the engine, and oddly enough, this is how those good ol' boy in sNASCAR (who are sharp) who have any brains route their systems.. They have in some ways same problems as we have in that they run things HARD, big loads, lotta Rs so they size water and erl kewlers for that---kinda like when (some of) us'n run on SSs, but then Bubbah Junior piles into the turn 4 wall and the yellow comes out, now they have to just cruise around at no load while the sweep up and hose off Junior and Cousin Earl--kinda like we do on transits... So not surprising they come up with a good system. The contrast is to a lotta OEM merikun and Japonaise things that have a simple catch tank so if it gets hot it overflows into tank and if it keeps getting hot the tank pisses on the ground.. And you've lost forever your coolant--even if you slow down.. So when I don't see a 8mm or 5/16ths nipple heading off toward the catch/overflow/de-gas tank I wonder.. T'other thing is is there a M22 x 1.5 threaded bung to use the ubiquitous and excellent 2 prong VW/Audi/Ford (Europe)/Opel/Saab/Fiat/etc/etc fan switch for which we have 15-18 choices of on/off temps stamped right in the hex--so ya know what it actually is and can do something (like we can't in a stock Xratty--but can in a Crossways Frod rad) John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember!
