i heard about that, but not in as much detail regarding the 'closeness of competition'....interesting. I wasn't there, so whatever, but still....interesting.

Well at least they upheald the UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT award for Utecht.
The best line was "It's turned into Solo". Sound just like the SCCA we all know so well. No mention of any penalties for the organizers who broke the rules by allowing Utecht to be course designer and "operations" honcho AND competing. Name names. The cost is slightly higher as I understand but no SCCA ( that has to be worth sumthin). |

There were some course changes and they watered the fuck out of the course a couple of times just prior to the few 2wd fools (like me and my friends) but nobody was taking anything seriously---how could ya? Was he the skin-head looking guy? I don't mind paying a little more for an entry fee. Unless it was a lot higher, it was probably close to the same cost, but w/o scca. However, where was it? Because rallyx is fun, but I don't want to have to drive too far for one. I drive from Portland to Salem for autox because I prefer the willamette motor club over scca, but that's only about an hour away, and the prices are cheaper and the courses are tighter (which I like, but a lot of people don't) |

Not saying I don't like taking a 1st place in my class here and there, no lie, my year end 1st overall is proudly displayed on my wall in my computer room. But damn if I didn't have as much fun my very first year when I was running last place almost every event. Water truck, bah, bring on the mud and the slippery slide, only thing I don't like about that is that I don't get enough runs, but then I never get enough runs anyway. |

"I run them for fun, and to me scca has sucked all the fun out of them."
Yer preaching to the choir! This is an oportunity for NASA, who are doing a good job for the grass roots performance rallyist, to develop a rally-X series, that is more fun than what SCCA rally-x has become. I used to run a ton of rally-x and so did many friends. Now no one I know wants any part of it. Ted Mendham www.rensport.net |

For what it is worth...
The local regions do NOT run anywhere near like that. I don't think we've ever had one protest in a Regional or needed one. We did have one at the National that WOR hosted, but it was by an out of region weenie who protested that the on-site photographer took his afternoon runs in a different heat, even though the photog took steps to ensure that he was non-competitive (I think he deliberately DNSed a few runs). If it was like Solo I'd quit. As it is, I feel right in having not gone to the National Event. Having been at this event, it was unlike any rallyX I have ever run. It had to be one of the fastest, smoothest and most whiny events I have been to. I have to commend the stewards and volunteers for putting up with a ton of BS from too many people.
I was not part of the protest but I can't disagree with the enginerd. Thing is, not one of the top four M2 cars has more than 150hp and we were running as fast as the M4 cars. There is no way someone could complain about a course favoring one car or another. that audi would have put the hurt on had it stayed together. -KTurner Stomp down on the exhilarator and hold on to the wheel. |

Well you don't need all that much power when you're not having to spin all those diffs and stuff.
