Never buy a car for the spectators, they are there for free. Buy a car for you.

Honda is pretty well proven in both the racing world and rally world. Definitely not an awful choice.

Leaf springs work, not as well as coils and a 3 or 4 link (imo). Colts, Arrows, Corollas and RX3s did a lot of ass kicking back in the day with leaf spring rear axles. Should still be plenty good for mid-pak grins and giggles. Spring wrap and wheel hop can be an issue along with axle tramp.

buying a car for the spectators, well more buying a car for my sanity. That subaru rumble a thousand times over can get kinda of droney. I have 4 subarus at my house right now as a matter of fact. Also its not like I am buying a ferrari to go rally racing because the spectators want me to. It's just I don't want the whole field to be who spent the most money on their turbo subaru.

Well, that makes sense in that you are buying for your reasons.

Currently we've bought that vintage Honda for near nothing with say a bad transmission or such. They are quite prevalent out here. The Colt will be a bit tougher for parts in a hurry but still doable.

What is your timeline for entering an event?

timeline for entering an event, well there is the show me rally dec6th i might be able to make that. I haven't even bought personal safety gear yet. Just have to get new seats and harness and personal safety, o and intercoms. So really could be on stage pretty quickly.

well just put down money for the civic and have a transport from ny to okie town. Just gotta work out the shipping details.

Colt looks cool but seems like it would be more headache. I wanted to stay with GP2 and honestly Honda seems like the easiest in terms of replacement parts and such. Granted there are weaknesses to the car, but at least they can be addressed.

So now i guess i can yell VTEC through the woods.

Yup he emailed me before. I have driven a few of those escorts that friends have had. Didn't really care for them, but that is an awesome package.

Belts, , http://www.saferacer.com/g-force-pro-series-fia-5pt-camlock-harness FIA rated belts cost a bit more but are good for 5 years.

Suits, depending on your particular body type some fit good others not so much. We usually get the G-Force 2 piece which are legal and then underwear to meet the 2 layer requirement. Much nicer on hot days to be able to take off the top and they are more comfortable.

Helmets...very personal..a poor fitting helmet will ruin your weekend quickly. Every brand fits differently. best to try them on first.

Shoes..not required, well not fire resistant anyway, nor gloves.

Seats , similar to helmets.

How tall are you, what do you weigh? Grant may have seats...

I usually get most everything from saferacer , they've been good to deal with.

Rule book for RA is here : http://www.rally-america.com/rules

Safety equipment starts on page 29 with the actual cert numbers to look for and examples of the tags and labels. There is a bulletin update (gotta watch for those) on helmets. http://www.rally-america.com/RuleBulletin/Rule_Bulletin_2014_007.pdf

I'm 6'6 and 180lbs, so we are about the same build-ish.
I have yet to find an off the shelf suit that fits well. To get the proper length I end up in a XL or XXL, but then you're wearing a suit that's rally baggy. It is nice for when you have to do any work though. I originally bought a L-tall G force suit, but in was very restrictive if I had to bend over, and it left my ankles bare.

I barely fit in normal seats. There are a few companies that offer taller seats, I would definitely look into one of those.

This might be some help: http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?7689-Race-seats-for-tall-drivers

I have OMP seats and they are ample room. I'm 6'2" 185lbs
Then tightening the belts makes ups for any slop.
And Gforce does make a nice low cost single layer. Definitely good when it's hot outsidesmiling smiley

Except it doesn't, when it counts. Belts stretch...
A loose fitting seat (sideways) can really hurt you in a side impact. One of my drivers had broken ribs from taking a tree in the door behind him ... a relatively soft impact as it was mostly sheet metal that got hit. (although it did shear the back stay off the strut mounts.)

So was it the belt or the seat that caused the broken ribs??
