Ominous title notwithstanding, I found this an interesting development:
http://couperallye.com/fr/manchettes/item/341-challenge-extreme-elite.html Not that many people outside Quebec competed in the events that switched, but some people in fleur de lis country didn't seem happy with CARS. Will be interesting to see how things go with NASA. I personally am a strong supporter of CARS' vision and work they have done, especially in the past 5 years with rallysport in Canada. I don't always agree with their decisions, but at the very least if we bitch and moan loudly enough, they usually come around. |

So will the NASA guys be required to buy all new Pirelli tires for each type of event? (Tarmac, snow, gravel). Is it spec tires or just any Pirelli? |
Considering how the events Eric Tremblay put on are the only ones affected, I would think the rules from the previous seasons he had in place will stand (pirelli tires and panta race fuel only). This wasn't done as a method to get more US competitors into Canada, even if the NASA press release may read that way, having added the events to their "championship". |

Clearly. Considering you can't even find registration info or sup regs for the current events online, there is probably a lot of work to be done for 2017. Seems they were pretty intent on having a pirelli spec tire and panta race fuel only the past year or so. If that has changed, then I personally don't see what has changed from when they were sanctioned by CARS. Maybe costs are lower? I doubt it, but you never know! I don't think it will make much of a difference though. Most of the competitors in the series before only rallied in Quebec at the Quebec regional events. The national events and a few regionals fall under CARS still. They are driving their own costs up by following different car preparation rules and needing two licences if they want to compete at more than 5 events in their own country. I dunno. Interesting to say the least. |

Maybe it was edited, but the answer on the NRS facebook account is now "We are focusing on the growth and affordability of the sport." with a follow-up of "We are still working out the details and will get specifics soon." Last year was year 2 of 3 for a spec fuel deal that mandated buying fuel from the event, even for cars running PUMP fuel, and year 1 of 3 for spec tires. It is a fairly safe assumption this will carry over to the new series since the sponsorships have carried over. Well anything could be great depending on point of view... But REQUIRING that ALL competitors use ONLY Pirelli tires for ALL rallies, and REQUIRING buying just one gas at outrageous prices could also be utter and complete bullshit... Generally when something is REQUIRED to be purchased or used--like single make car or there are subsidies and discounts to the participants NOT shit sold at a premium.. That's part of the negotiation on the deal.. This all cars ONLY on Pirelli at THOSE prices and ONLY this fuel sounds like NOT a deal for the competitors...Sounds like some deal was made though... The fuel and tires sell for more than you can get them elsewhere. Someone is earning some $$$ for sure. I guess one silver lining is maybe this will allow CARS to spend their time elsewhere rather than having to deal with all of that. Never much of a point in forcing someone to do something they don't like. |

It will only be great in my mind and a lot of others in New England if we can run any tire and any fuel. From NASA's response this seems like what they would like to see too but dont know the details themselves. |

And their post no longer says it 'isn't a spec tire series' First Rally attended (2000), First Rally competed in (2001) Cars Built (1), Engines Built (0) Cages Built (0) Driver (8), Co-Driver (47), Drivers (19) Clerk (29), Steward (1), Official (17), Volunteer (5) WRC Spectator (1), WRC Photographer (6), WRC Observer (4) Rallies attended (120) Countries attended rallies in (11) Last Updated, May30, 2022 |
