Hi honey, your home!
You _could_ rent your own room, the DooWop events are really what rally should be: low key, as affordable as possible, good schedule and very good roads.

And enough time to look around and talk to folks.

Now as to cars.
The Capri CAN be an excellent car with some typical work.
Look at www.jvab.f4.ca and there is a folder or whatever of a Capri built just a year ago.
Somewhere ("BC Boy" Skye re-arranged the folders, I'm just a helpless car/engine builder and have problems with all this computer stuff.) Ther should be photos of the later version of the motor that came in the 2800 capris, the 2900 V6 which I built for a guy in the midwest. They are externally nearly identical and much better internally. +Lots of power potential for cheap. - heavy and there are oddly enough 2 more cylinders to buy pistons, rod bearings, rings, valves etc for than on a 4 cylinder motor.

I just happen to have a clean titled 76 Capri V6 2800 sitting right over there--->
It's supposed to be the 'rolling spares depot" for the first one.
bear in mind body panels and glass are available for a specialist in the US midwest.

Now if you wanted to get going toute suite, a friend has a fresh RX7 2nd gen with a cage that would meet CARS standards. Comes with a spare street car and a spare engine. It will eventually need apex seals.
It does need some modern suspension.
This car would be an excellent way to get started.
They aren't my fav but they have worked OK.
I can arrange photos.

Good to see you've answewr some of the questions.
Mountain bikibng is a nice quiet, contemplative passtime, but its better than filing fingernails. So you like it, good. I really have no idea how fast you might have taken things but the general tendancy is at least in the same half of the worlds.

Now help us with the other questions.

Here we go, another one with brilliant ideas.

Perhaps you do not understand English. Buy a car that is ready. If this concept is difficult for you to grasp, Houston We Have A Problem.

Based on your verbage, you seem to be of the Playstation Generation. So let me lay it out for you in a simple way.

If you don't have a trust fund you can dig in to don't think about a Capri.

If you want an RX7, go for it but buy a prepared car.

Building is painful and takes a shit load of time and money. If you have both, and I say both, go for it.

If you ask for advice, take the headphones off your ears and listen.

Based on your comments on Golfs, it is evident that you don't know your ass from your elbow. That doesn't make you a bad person, if you are willing to listen and learn, we can help, if not bugger off.

There is a shit load of fucking fast Golfs that keep up with more powerful cars. If you have an unlimited budget I have nothing to say but if not, reconsider the Golf.

You sound more like a whiner than all of us.

John cut the poor boy a little slack.

He lives on Galiano Island in the Gulf Islands (the Canadian version of the San Juans). The distance from one end to the other is about 16KM (10 miles). That said, I don't think he's used to much of a commute.

----OK so the Golf may not be to your liking at first glance. You *may wish to consider that many guys driving Golfs have done well when the car is in a descent state of tune and the driver has the balls to hold the loud pedal on the mat Look to Derek Bottles' efforts with his Golf.

----Have you been to Rome? If not; DO!! I could easily spend a month exploring that city. As for your driving.... Start slow and learn to drive. Finishing the event is more important then showing anyone up. You will likely be learning new sensations for how things should feel as you drive. Take your time and enjoy yourself.

RX-7's have been used sucessfully. I do not care for them. I suggest looking toward the Volvo 240...Merkur XR4Ti.... Toyota Corolla.... Find something that is already built and you will be happier a year from now.

John, so much is same as Escort that it is effectively the same car except for sheetmetal and glass, and thus easy IF one plans.

The RX7 I mentioned IS done but I agree, not my favorite. Too short, too twitchy, too heavy, not enough power. Do have good brakes and my favorite oil cooler!

]And re XR4Ti it would be hard to find one already built and the same goes for the Volvo 240.

Hey Rallybitch, those two cars really ARE THE BEST ALL ROUND CHOICES.
I wouldn't be making stuff for them if I thouight they were dead-end cars.
I make stuff for cars I know are good.
For normal people with normal budget, they are ideal.

Oh, sweety. My heart is going pitter patter. Yeah, these guys want in your pants. Me?... well I'm married, so unavailable (commitment and all that crap)... even if you look like Heidi Klum.

"Rally Bitch" is good. I like it. "RallyBitch" (without the space) I like better, because it goes along with the SCCA's New World Order of rally (too long a story to go into here).

Yes Ma'am! BTW I am the Easter Bunny. Front wheel drive is okay if you like it...not me.

I haven't read this entire thread (therefore I missed this part), but my guess is several of these guys are drooling and falling all over themselves trying to get in your pants. The problem is they wouldn't know what to do when they got there.

If you can afford it get yourself a nice hotel room when you go rallying. Eat nice meals. Get rest. Then go kick some testosterone struting asses on stages.

Capris were junk when they were new. They don't improve with age like fine wines.

Some people like 1st gens for rallying. I had a 2nd gen and hated it. Sure you can drop a bundle and make them go fast, but why not start with something better. I have a V8 2nd gen, but the stupid rally rules don't allow for something like that.

> Lets have some suggestions.

It depends on deep your wallet is, and what you plan to accomplish.

The conventional wisdom is Subaru. I tend to agree.

There is a chick out on the west coast who did okay with a Subaru. I've forgotten her name right now, but her name is Jamie. She goes by a handle "Subiegal". Search for her with google or something and you should be able to find her.

If you're twisted and a non conformist with deep pockets, then get a Porsche 911. I used to have one of those tail-happy bastards for a rally car (20+ years ago). It was more fun than sex.

Ouch. No Golf or Rabbit huh? Okay then. Get a Chevrolet Cavalier. You can get some dope ass tails stock.

As for getting in your pants, most here are married or have girlfriends. As for me, despite you being over a thousand miles away, chances are your not up to my supermodel standards. Sorry. Thanks to for showing us the cool pic of the butt plug. When you and your girls are down in Dominican Republic make sure to have fun with that one.

www.rallyclassifieds.com
www.specialstage.com
Both websites have good classified sections. Buying a car is definitely a better method for starting out. There's a pretty sweet RX7 out in the Great Lakes region for sale for about the cost of 8 trips to the caribbean. There's some rallying down there to. The Rally Jamaica is a pretty serious event. Good luck and welcome.

Well John, itès true, I am used to a small island, and no more the 10 minutes to work, maybe hour and a half if I had to deal with ferries. But you see, its not the driving I hate, its the god damn traffic, and never moving, and stupid fucking people who canèt drive worth a shit. Ièm not a pussy, Ièm just gonna take some time to get adjusted. what I canèt figure out is why americas make such a long commute all the time. Most candians would just say fuck it and move closer to their job. But maybe thats just me.
But since youère all high and mighty about having such a h-core commute, maybe you should go live on Gabriola and see how you like it. Bet it would take you more then 2 weeks to get adjusted to it.
And by the way, Mudge has TONS of shit, its mostly half acres lots. and many many cottages. No cops, no services. Just roads, and lots of boats. Some good parties overe there from what Iève seen. Valdez, the island just south of mudge is where its at. mostly un populated, really sweet terrain, and lots of killer logging roads to have fun on, if you can get a car or truck barged over there to play with.
Cheers

Taro
