They did, several years back. Neat article.

Hey Per;

You are not a douchebag. But if I call you names, would you buy me drinks too ? grinning smiley

On a serious note, one has to be a competitor to understand the pre-event stress. Hell my own codrivers hate the way I am during the period that encompasses 30 minutes from the time we enter tech and 5 seconds before start. Apparently during that whole period I am the biggest asshole God created and put on earth. If this was the sentiments of only one codriver I'd shrug it off but I'm afraid there is truth to the observation, both Mike and Jennie agree on it.

I love the sarcasm used by the guy who wrote the article, let's hope and pray he'll grow some balls to convert at least one of his cars to rally. After all who cares if you run 12 secs in a car destined to be rallied. Besides drag races are similar to premature ejaculations.

hey now, if i convert my galant to rally how am i supposed to get to work everyday?
unfortunately i don't have any nurburgring lap times, because other than that and 1/4 mile times there isn't really a way for me to tell you in my signature that i have a fast car that i can drive well.

per and i resolved my nastiness privately via email.

Here is what you do Grasshopper;

Since you claim to be running 12s one can assume, without risking to make an ass of himself, that ypu have your engine dialed in, balance shafts removed, leaky center diffs cured. You go get a LEGAL cage installed keeping the back seat intact, even if you have kids, it's more exciting for them to crawl in and out of the car a-la-Jungle Jim. If you don't have kids, mobetta, spend your money in a bitchin' set of JVFAB gravel suspenders, you don't need the kidney stones anyways. Be nice to me and I'll source you out a 32mm restrictor if you wanna run PGT or a 34mm one if you are crazy enough to run Open in a car that has a back seat. In the mean time you drive the Gaylant back and forth to work and find more shit to fix. Slowly but surely, you stitch the car, not much, but just enough. Gaylant is a strange animal, you stitch it too much it falls apart. You buy me drinks over and above being nice to me, I source out some super bitching proper RalliART rear bushings aswell, not genuine ones, just copies of the ones I have.

Next you put your money together and buy seats and belts, they are more bitching than the stock leatherette seats of the Gaylant, even in Joyzee.

After that nothing stops you from rallying other than cubic Dollars spent in licenses, safety paraphernalia, tires, wheels, entry fees.

Sounds good ?

Ahhhhhhhh PBR, an indispensable item in a rally service vehicle. The one and only beer that's canned in a strong enough can to repair broken exhausts, Holly Grail of Fling Pu racing, Savior of poor collegiate rallyists. O Mighty PBR, We Pray For Thee. grinning smiley

One time, during tech, I spotted Moose and tried to say hi. He ripped a seat belt out of the car, whipped me about the face and neck with it, all the while screaming something Turkish, which I think meant he would stab me or something.

It was scary, but it was all good when El Blendero showed up.

Actually, you'd be really surprised at how stock my car is. it ran a 12.8 @ 106 about 4 years ago, last time i had it at the track. it was all stock except for an ACT clutch, supra fuel pump, bigger intercooler and unbolted exhaust and removed air filter. boost gauge and controller of course.
but i put myself through college wrenching on DSM's professionally so i know the tricks and how to race them.

now that i have more than a dollar in my pocket the car has some more fun mods.
i put a evo/rs trans and matching rear end in it (same setup in your evo2) so i have the sweet short ratio trans and 3.909 final drive. find me an evo3 trans so i can get the bitchen synchros and LSD grinning smiley
fidanza aluminum flywheel and centerforce DF clutch
i've got evo8 injectors, evo8 front seats (cloth), 2g maf and pipe, 2g exhaust manifold, 7cm turbine housing on a stock 14b, weight removed where i can without removing creature comforts, jdm front and back bumpers (minus 100lbs at least) those stupid hinge joints in the rear end i welded solid and put poly bushings in all the rear suspension, whiteline rear sway bar
evo9 MR bilstein struts, springs, and strut mounts fabbed up to work on my gaylant with a lot of caster and camber for fun turning smiling smiley
rx7 FD 16x8 rims (i think they are like 15.5 lbs) with 225 50 ultra high performance tires

i'd love to stitch the car and install a cage.
any tips on stitching? i was going to do the firewall this fall. i have to do a heater core on it and thought it might be a good idea while i have the dashboard out.

but honestly i thin its too much car for me to begin rally in. i'd rather do something easier and cheaper and much slower. the galant i'd put into a tree real quick i'm sure grinning smiley

oh, btw the car has 258,000 miles on it now too
here's a pic with my ralliart rims on (snow tire setup)

Heheheehe, poison effectively injected.

First, stitch around the firewall with 4" gaps between stitches and 2" long GOOD PENETRATION stitches. On the strut towers 2" and 2". You want top mounts ? I fink I have a set of spare fronts in the garage I may be persuaded to part with for some moolah. grinning smiley

EVO 3 box ? Stay away from mine, not for sale.

Cage ? See Dave Clark.

Suspenders ? JVFAB ALL DAY LONG, and this is coming from the guy who introduced HotBits to US, yes I was the first and one and only importer of that stuff when MobyDick was a minnow.

Get rid of your gay ass EVO8 seats on eBay.

Wanna sell your front bumper ??? grinning smiley

Re: [unauthorized] STPR pics...

hahaha smiling smiley
my seats aren't gay!
they actually are the only reason i can still drive the car. i was in a motorcycle accident a few years ago and my left leg and back are f'd up. with the stock leather seats i'd slide around when pushing on the clutch (same reason i ditched the ACT clutch and went with a centerforce) and it would wreck my back and leg after a while.
with the evo seats (yeah, yeah any other well fitting seat would work) it holds me tight to the seat and now doesn't aggravate my back and leg anymore.
they are cheap for what you get. $500 for the pair and it took seriously 15 minutes for me to make the brackets and install them.

so i'll stitch up the firewall when i go and do the heater core, i was thinking of tearing up the carpet to clean it while i was there so maybe i'll do the floor too. i'll see what i can get at without setting the car on fire smiling smiley

what i'd really like to do is at least get a legal cage and compete in the rally new york tarmac races. this way i don't have to go crazy with skidplates and welding and tires and flipped over in a ditch smiling smiley
plus that might even be in AAA range from me tongue sticking out smiley

Even on tarmac you will need a skidplate. keep in mind your car won't tech with reclining seats. Contact JVL and learn how to make a Nitrogen Death Ray Gun to remove nasty black insulation from floorboards.

damn i didn't know that about reclining seats. hmmm
i took all the insulation out of my mustang. i definitely lost about 4 years of my life breathing that stuff in. not fun either. i stitch welded a lot of that car too and put in a 6pt roll bar. not the nicest but it passes tech. if i want to continue racing it i need to go to a certified 10pt
really not looking to do that so maybe i have to start dumping my money into the galant instead smiling smiley

Just note that the ratio I've seen on REAL prepped cars done for Ford in UK and the ratio Ford has specified for YEARS is 1/2" weld every 1.5".

More is not needed.
