OK in order of things to do:
DIFF
Brakes tip top
Some kind of cheap struts--KYB GR2 Fronts will do...

And of course the RIGHT T5 (flywheel, disc and PP is easy, pedal sets is easy, clutch cables are cheap new)

Have you seen the Supra diff mounting kit?

Yeah I have seen the setup for the Supra LSD. The first step for me is finding a car and getting it in decent shape. Working on a graduate school budget for the next year will limit what I can do until I start working full time next year.

well you know the key thing is findin an "opportunity buy" on the diff. These things were $50-75 5-6 years ago.. Now e-bay is full of $300 ones..
No no, man you pounce on a good price....autotragics are 4.3 ratio, dat be de hot thing I.

Whacher grad schoolin in? Where? You know my main man Graham Cullen?

Oh, this is what Graham is FaceSpacing me about…

Yeah, you want something not rusty in New England, you'll be in for at least $2,500, probably $4k.

When you get $600 to scrap a car, anything that runs and drives, no matter how shitty, is worth at least $1500. Economics.

The hitch from the 240 got moved to Barry's wagon. But we could make one for the e300.

It's the whole workforce problem.
More and more people earning extra money doing exactly what Adam just described drives up the value of used cars.
Why would you want a Merkur when you could rally a Fiesta?

Damn successful people, ruining it for the rest of us.

No. People struggling to get by and looking for ways to supplement their stagnant wages. You have to have 100k in assets, big surety bonds, and pay tons of taxes/fees to get a dealer license so much of this happens through private party.

This reason wins by a long shot. Anyone selling a sub $600 has some sort emotional reason why they don't want the car to be scrapped.

1987 merkur xr4ti odometer: 100000 automatic transmission
I have a 1987 Merkur XR4Ti available for the right collector. I originally purchased the car from Oregon at 85k miles, as a project car to be restored and then drove it for a year commuting to OKC. I love this car, but its not currently qualified as a daily driver without some work being done. I am pricing to liquidate, I will include misc. minor parts purchased for it. The car is Automatic, with no sunroof. I purchased and installed leather seats from a salvage vehicle (in good condition) thanks to dark tinted windows. I have all records since original owner. It has mostly been sitting for years, needs a good inspired owner. Neat Car!

Best offer! Call me!

Only 1,756 mi, 26 hours
In current traffic: 27 hours

leave on Friday be back Monday.

call four o five 5 one 3 one three one three, or send me an email. thankyou

Its not as crazy as it sounds. I flew to South Florida and drove Jari's BMW home the long way through Texas with hand controls. Of course Jari did give me that "how dumb is this guy" look when I backed out of the driveway.

Top tip - if you drive it home, don't put the thing you're most likely to need for a roadside repair underneath everything else piled up in the back seat (in my case a wheel/tire).

Probably could've got it up to $500 by filling it with useless stuff sitting in the yard. confused smiley

I found one for locally for $1000 so deals are out there. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/4324871101.html

I am about ready to place standing orders with a local dealership we do work for, to source me an M3. Book trade-in on an M3 in ratty condition is about half of what an RX-7 goes for locally.

Right now I am not in a hurry. Ill wait till something nice comes along. Fuel costs and trailer rental to drive out to OK and pick up that car is the same price as the car. Hopefully spring will come around and cars will show up in the northeast. Just gotta find one that hasn't fallen victim to salt. I think Graham might need some help sprucing up the 96 anyway.
