This is a long shot of course. But my girlfriend is thinking of buying a 1979 Saab 99. Which I would of course like to encurage her to do, except it has a cracked windshield. Apparently these are hard to come by and the last thing I need is a car off the road for something silly like a windshield.
Any help is appreciated. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

There are Saab perverts in Vermont and Nude Hampster, the 99 windsheiel sits in old school rubber gaskets, quick to change when you have a new one. So find one there, drive down and bang it in and drive home, just don't say the words "Fuel Rods" when entering Fortress America.
Take your own "Ream Cream" to assist the Geheimstatspolizei at the border. I just changed the title over on the 79 99 I was given recently, I've known the car and worked on it since 1984. Hey, check the gearbox oil level, smell the oil and report back here before you buy it, the boxes are good but they leak oil and they will fail expensively when they suffer low oil. It BETTER be cheap. You know there are all sorts of interchanges with similar year VW on all engine electrics and fuel injection stuff, lots easier finding VW Rabbit fuel minfection junk up there in People's Respublik of Eastern Knuckleheadistan. If you neeed detailed intructions on upping the 8v motor to 175bhp and upgrading the brakes to better calipers, or upgrading the clutch, and the exhaust system etc just ask. You could ask on some of the Saab wank-off sites but the "heroes' there are just repeating stuff they've read about which was done on cars in Seattle first. |

John,
Thanks for the info. It's pretty cheap and needs a lot of this and that, but otherwise seems to be a decent deal if I manage to track down a windshield in time and on budget. The windshields were still placed in with rubber gaskets in 1979? If that's the case I have experience with that style on early Volvo 140s. Changing it shouldn't be a chore at all. I've been doing a fair bit of research and it seems as though that parts can be hard to scare up for these.. not that big of a deal I guess as long as it doesn't need to be fixed every couple weeks. Thats a great tip about the injection and electronics. I'm sure that will come in handy. With any luck the car will be in the driveway with a new windshield and safety soon. I'll keep you posted. As for improved performance.. I doubt the girlfriend will want it, but when I take/get it from her I sure will Cheers john vanlandingham Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are Saab perverts in Vermont and Nude > Hampster, the 99 windsheiel sits in old school > rubber gaskets, quick to change when you have a > new one.
