Yep. Do we rig the whole system to serve "the 1%"? Or to serve as coolies for Corporate Masters? Or to serve 'a higher" , more noble purpose: growth of human consciousness? (that is the only lasting value of all this zooming around in the woods and fawkin with recalcitrant cars in the garage) Higher consciousness defined as "ultimate realisation' is that sharing and increasing happiness is a noble goal. lotta parallels between life, rally and politics. I just had an interesting conversation with someone who turned from longtime volunteer into 6+ events per year co-driver this year. I've been seeing a ton of new volunteers out, but just as with competitors, retaining them is difficult. Immersion is key, rather than a "here is your control/checkpoint/spot to take care of and a bagged lunch, have a nice day". Unfortunately, it is very chicken and egg, you need someone that is completely dedicated to the "volunteer co-ordinator" position who goes above and beyond simply making the volunteers perform their duties. I'm sure we'll save rally at the RallyWest AGM on the 17th though. ![]() ![]() |

Unoriginal - I already had this idea. "Talk about drugs. Driving a car like that, going that fast, it’s like all the drugs at once." - Tommy Byrne "Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. You moved to Grindelwald to drive the cog train to Murren. Can you repeat that?" - The Brain |

You know who won't save rally? So, basically, he wants OTHER people to find more opportunities for HIM to get his name out and sponsor racing. Considering he is only remotely even known on the face of the fucking planet due to competing in a sport put on by UNPAID volunteers is just un-fucking-believable. Tiered entry fees is the answer to saving rally, because Leo (afaik) sure hasn't brought sweet-fuck-all to the table besides himself.
And when I pointed out it sounded like he wanted to help Keith with sponsorship for the CRC, he replies "people should do their jobs" ![]() I. Am. Livid. If I saw Leo at Tall Pines (lucky for him, I am not going), he'd get a piece of my mind. Entitlement at its finest.

Stick around a little longer. This sport is full of this type of person. They are usually critical of how things are being done, do jack shit to change or improve anything, and almost never last more than a couple years. They aren't the ones that turn into volunteers, organizers, shop owners, etc. though typically so at least we don't have to deal with them for long. Grant Hughes |

I don't know where the post came from, but reading it in a vacuum, to me it seems like he's giving props to a group that took some initiative and did a live broadcast - showing its possible. If anything, maybe its a little jab at the RA guys who've promised similar things and haven't pulled it off yet - maybe they will if the sanction fees double?
![]() Me personally, I've taken zero interest in anything Leo's done since the first "press release" that went on and on about getting a ride in a 500hp rally car... Now back to debating if more coverage is truly beneficial to the long term interest of the sport... Dave Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/20/2012 07:09PM by DaveK. |

Facebook, via Leo. TV2GO is to be applauded, no doubt, but that live tv coverage came out of THEIR pockets (ie. they sponsored the effort FOR the CRC/Tall Pines/competitors). While I didn't really care one way or another, it was the reply to the suggestion that Leo not ask what others can do for him/the sport, but what he can do for it, and that I am sure Keith would love any help he can get in securing sponsorship (10-15% finders fee on the line, incase anyone is wondering). His answer was that people should do their jobs and not require others to do it for them, which is not only ignorant, but a slap in the face to anyone that has ever volunteered. That's all. I personally am rapidly coming to the realization that the sport is only the sport and will only continue to be so as long as there are lots of grassroots teams competing. Based on the way either RA or CARS (or NASA) receives it's funding, the easiest way (up to the limit an event can handle) for rallying to grow is still by more competitors. The cool thing is that the more people compete, the "fanbase" will naturally grow with it. |
