So weekend 1 of the Project Mini-me build is underway, after a hateful time in the Talon and a re-evaluation of why I do this thing we call rally I'm going back to my roots. An underpowered RWD Ford is the way forward or should I say sideways for me. As there is a lack of Escorts here I'm throwing my fun fund at a Ranger. Anyone in the PNW or Western Canada who knows me will get it! I'm not wanting the latest in funky coloured shocks, not going to have a fancy WRC Blue paint job, not going to have the latest in GPS powered Trip computers, no fancy electonics. It's going to be the ultimate in affordable rally toys, off the shelf shocks, a set of General Grabbers for year round fun. I may have to invest in some studs for Big White as my record there isn't the best!!! I'm going to be posting pictures as and when I remember to take them. I have 10 weeks to get this beast up and running before the Radium Rally in May. Is it going to be hard work yup, is it going to be fun hell yeah, do I care what the detractors are going to say umm nope. Here is the first picture of many.....
Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |

Great! Perfect. If you squint from some angles it looks just like an F150, which far other angles it looks almost identical to a Peugeot 206! And bonus it'll be yoon-eek ![]() John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Looks nothing like my old 206 S16, or an F150 it does in fact look remarkably like a Ranger.
![]() The problem is John, after playing with proper Cosworths for a number of years I don't want to tarnish my memories with an Xr4ti. This is not a screw you to all those people out there with one, it's just me personal preferance. Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |

Whats the big difference tween the Xratty shell, suspenders, and junk-n-stuff other than the beast of a all iron Lima vs a nice purdy YB?
Its not like i don't have 3 fully rebuild all new YBs sitting here so that isn't a problem, just money... What engine in the rAnger (you have to say it like a growl rrrrrrrr and then anger like youse pissed off..Pick-ups gotta have agressive names dotcha know..There's RAMPAGE!!!! Raptor! Lightning! Syclone! so it has to be rrrrrrrAnger!) You said 3.0 but which? If'n its the 2.9 then you can have some good cheap fun easy. At the moment it's the boggo standard 2002 3.0l, to fit in with the CARS regs I will be building up a hot 2.3 duratec 230hp ish as and when finances allow. I would love a blue top but too expensive.

You do know that 3,0 "Vulcan" thing is a hideously horrible thing dotcha? Poor Old Dave Clark once was searching for uncracked heads and it was a hard job finding any without cracks all over.. Horrible... You'd be much better off with the old 2,9 Cologne which is much nicer than the older 2,8 it replaced.. And you just happen to know somebody who spent more than 20 years modding Cologne V motors (that were usually a bit shorter and stiffer but otherwise the same). Yeah we know, but you don't seem to really understand how the interplay of power and gearing work so that you don't need to have big motors... Absolutely, that was the main reason for the choice of truck. I can set the seats far enough back to be comfy, but also get the FIA required cage in it without sacrificing space. Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |

Here's the thing John, that Vulcano isn't going to be staying in it for long. I bought the truck for the space and condition of the truck, that 3.0 is going to be thrown out and a silly 2.3 Duratec slotted on to it. I'm not worried about other engine choices out there as this is my truck, done my way, for my reasons, so I appreciate the well meant comments however.....
Danster, I would love to bring it back to the UK and throw it around Duns, I think it would be a complete blast. It's no bigger than a LR90. Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |
