Pics are coming, I need to download the second run set and then thin out all the crap. 5 months of rust made for a lot of crappy shots at the start of the day.

And had to stop on the drive home due to a blown up driveshaft Guibo and switch Scott Leonard cars on his trailer and drive his Golf the rest of the way home. Close ratio with a 4.6 final drive in it made for a high RPM fun drive home.

The Merkur was awesome fun. Scared people many times, killed some cones, put 33 miles on the car driving in anger and the temp gauge never went over 1/2 and the oil never above 180 (after oil cooler). Hardly ever drove straight. The first run around the course with the broken boost controller resulting in 24 lbs. made for a fun and exciting drive. The brake adjuster was stuck due to dirt and brake fluid though so I hardly had any rear brakes making setting the car up for the tighter corners nearly impossible. Had quite a ridiculous number of spins, though none in anything over 2nd gear thankfully. The JVAB suspension was fucking awesome through the rough, tight, and big jumps. Now I just need to get a bit less ride height so it doesn't feel so monster truck. The JVAB front brakes could stop a semi. I can go deeper into every corner than any other car I've driven out there, just with little to no rear brakes it just means I end up plowing way outside and understeering like crazy. The T5 is #1 priority right now. The T9 with unknown condition stock clutch was less than desireable.

I almost called you John during the beginning of a run so you could hear the way though but I forgot when I got in line. And was going to call you when we got back, but as I was up at 4 am and didn't go to bed until 1 am, I've been out of it and stupidly tired. Going to let the dog in now and go to bed.

Glad you liked the suspension and the brakes, I was just told the same thing about being able to go way deeper and really modulate the brakes by Seattle boy Wyatt, only he's on asphalt.
He said he never as been able to modulate out of locked brakes before, but now he said it was easy, and that is exactly what I was shooting for.

I'm shooting for the same control in the rear and I think I'll get it.

And 24 psi sound like loadsa laughs!

I think that the majority of sorting will deal with the wiring harness. As of right now I have a short list of things to do in the next six weeks before the first hill climb. And have to figure out a way to come up with the ~$2000 for parts I need. But first is to get the new Guibo on tonight and get the car home so I can get it up on stands and start taking it apart in preparation for what is next. Front hubs with new wheel bearings and tapped M12 ears (sorry John, I'm an ass. The grinder on the pads worked fine), Burton TCA, T5 tranny swap, a little bit of work on the interior, halfshafts rebuilt, lower spring seats, etc.

Modulating brakes you say? Huh. I just wait until the last second, pound them as hard as I can, then get back on the throttle as soon as I can. I do get some strange pedal moments though. There's one section at CORE where you come out of hairpin left that leads into a long second gear sweeping right that goes into a long straight that I can just hit fourth gear in, then hard brakes into another hairpin right. As you can imagine, there's lots of accelerating and sideways action with no braking. Into the hairpin the pedal initially is much, much softer and takes much more travel to engage. I figured it's just from all the sliding and deflection pushing the pistons back in and thus it takes more fluid to push them back out.

I have about 12" in front, and 11.5 or so in rear. The Ford book for RAC lists 9.6 and 9.3 for front and rear respectively.
My springs are 2.5" I believe. 3.5" outer diameter with a .5" coil thickness.
I'm going to weld the sill jack points tomorrow and get the car up on stands this weekend and start pulling stuff off.

Just tried to call you John about the spring stuff. I'll try again later though.

It is actually going to get bigger. Carl is graciously cutting one more road into the RallyCross course. Hopefully with the new road the RX courses will be able to reach 90-120 seconds per run instead of dipping down into the 50s some times.

Wow Kevin great pictures! And what a great facility.

My car club holds rally-x's as well, and the hard part is finding good venues. They usually end up being smaller, but with a couple laps it's decent seat time.

Do you guys post results? Be curious to see the time differentials between cars. Also - is the facility viewable on google earth?

Great job on the car Grant - can't wait to see the videos now...
