Torgue is very good!! I happened to pick up the 20v thingy for $325...so it seemed like a cheap decent option. I haven't looked into the 3GSE yet...but I will!

yup...already bought the motor. I can sell it for the same price I bought it if better options are out there for similar dollars.

The 3SGE in a RWD car is way cool except for a couple little sticky points. If you plan to use an older engine you need a bellhousing that only came on diesel trucks in Australia. Toysport usually has them or can get them. http://www.toysport.com/catalog/PET%203S-GTE%20Conversion.htm
The stock intake manifolds that come on them are generally for FWD applications and need to be modified or replaced with something custom. Basically you get up into the range where you could just buy a complete BEAMS engine transmission combo from an importer more easily. Then you can buy all sorts of cool shit like this off the shelf.

Could be:
I.....3.79
II....2.28
III...1.52
IV....1.12
V.....1.0
VI....0.79

So skip 1st, use 2nd thru 5th go 5.3 final drive IN A VOLVO axle and you'll have a HOT car.

The other news about Saab is that Stig Blomqvist will soon get power-steering both in rally and rallycross.Roger Johansson has tried out power-steering last year in rallycross and got it all working.The Premier for Stigs part will be in the Swedish Rally. We have long discussed if its time to test power-steering,said Börje Jarl,responsible for the technical development of Saabs competition department. But until now we have been limited to power-steering which is not of sufficiently quick reaction.The problem is now gone.The new servo to 900 model is unbelievably quick and has great high precision.
Power-steering for Saab does not involve just the cars becoming more easy steering,now it is stable enough to also commence developing the chassis.One can use important wider tires.
I have so far done the whole trial part with servo,says Stig Blomqvist.The results are amazing.Just through putting on wider tires I can drive more than one second quicker per kilometer,which in Rac-rally would mean more than 10 minutes shorter drivetime on the stages.In addition to being of better precision than earlier, I do not get tired on long stages.
Mainly during this year,Saab will be developing the road-handling.The motor and gearbox are considered to be (tested) enough today,the turbo-motor now gives 270 horsepower and the torque is at 37 kpm.

Luke, I had read something somewhere in a book, then when I got to know Ola Stromberg I aked him about it.
The book and Ola didn't mention the wider tire bit. Ola emphsised the ability to wind in 4 degrees of CASTOR for more self centering effect and I have always liked to shoot for that 4 degrees. The car goes straight till I turn the wheel, and have good "on center" feel on gravel.

Boys, the OEM Toiletta ring gear is like 6.3" or so, you don't think that stepping up to say 7.2" in a Dana 30 or 7.5" would be enough for a limp wristed 1.6?????

My lurv of Toiletta 8" is really for guys with TURBO 2.3s like Xratties and Volvos, you know manly man cars.
I like a margin of safety more than most guys, but dontcha stink.....????.

3sGE Beams - Got it

Ford type 9 - Is there an off the shelf bellhousing adapter? Seems like machining one would get pricey quick. Why not the lexus 6-speed that's bolted to the motor from the factory?

Suspension - JVL bouncers?

Brakes - JVL stoppers?

Rear End - Depends on which rear axle I use. I was thinking Volvo w/ Dana 30, Watts set-up. Never seen the early Supra IRS bolted in...I'll look around.

JVL currently doesnt have any brake kits- yet.

I dont know how hard to bolt a supra IRS in is, I should have looked into that... But, as that is set up for straight axle, it may be goofy. Yes there is an off the shelf adaptor for the type 9, its from Fensport. Theres another one from the UK too, but its just as pricey. Since you want to run a 3sge, just run the RWD one and use the RWD tranny. It might fit... kinda?

Yet. It looks pretty damn simple. I've gotten Saab 900 discs under 14" before and that was 20 years ago, I've learned a wee bit since then.

Not so much goofy as no need.
If Ford Escorts can still hang with in the hardest rallies where they're allowed against virtually anything and all they had was a solid axle and LOOOOOOOOOONG links, then YOU CAN TOO with a solid axle.

It's one of those "potential incremental tiny % improvement" things for unknown but certain pains in the asses of time and money.

Well, I think its an issue of length. Where the gear stick ends up. I *think* the issue Dan is having with his "kit" is it ends up way the fuck behind you. Or at least way the fuck where it shouldnt be. But im not sure.
