Works fine in my struts though. -Tim |

You're Right! Had it all 'plained to me by a Rx7 guy that the RX7s are so cheap people pay you to take them away, the motor cost nothing to build cause they're always perfect and never brake, the top of the line suspension cost only 800 bucks and the Rx7s records of wins is vaster and more extensive than any other car out there world wide. I'm trying to gather info so I know what I'm looking for. Got any recommended sources? And what are those bushings called? Face it, John, you're just popularizing this "suspension travel" junk because you're out to make a buck. We all know its true. -D |

They're often called DU (r) bushings and are available from Applied.
www.applied.com. Keyword search for du and punch in your sizes. ferexample: https://www.applied.com/apps/commerce/catalog/catalog.do?e=10&s=2966653&r=0&type=a&mp=5040DU Lurch Eric Burmeister The west coast...of Michigan Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/2008 01:49PM by Lurch. |

No prob.
Try to find the right size if using these DU jobs. Don't rely on machining them in to size. These typically have a teflon coating on them that would get machined off if you did that. Mic your inner tubes and make sure they aren't too wacked. Also, as JV says roll them on a surface plate with a light bulb behind them to check if they're bent. If they're bent enough to matter, you'll see it by doing this. Party on. Lurch Eric Burmeister The west coast...of Michigan |

Further to this: When I do bronze bushings, I shoot for the .003-.004 crush on the OD. cause i will be boring the ID once its in. For you you have to think ofhow you're going to size the ID. It SEEMS to idicate that these things have a SINTERED BRONZE material, I sday SEEMS TO. Whell I just had to eat about 300 bucks worth of bushings and install tools etc cause the sinter bronze things the "other guy" at the counter at Applied said was the only thing they could get with the dims I wanted---desp[ite me PLEADING to "Look under the counter for the skinny Symco quick reference brochure"--- prove to be too soft and in use would loose the crush and move. Oddly, when my "normal guy" was back at the counter, he listened, looked under the counter and lo and behold there were nice tough easy machining bronze bushings. The real question Dave is WHAT IS YOUR EXACT TUBE ID. HOW WILL YOU DO FINAL SIZING? > > Lurch > Eric Burmeister > Greatlakesknowitallatlarge > Dee-troit > Still work at Ford...for now...check back > tomorrow. > Not anymore. Fired. If they used commercially available sintered bushings with teflon coating like Protracs do, and the ID of the outer tube is machined to the standard listed in the bearing specs for "press fit," no "sizing" should be required.
Still worth a check for fit before you just slam everything together, but you being an egghead engineer and all, I don't have to worry 'bout that! Lurch Eric Burmeister The west coast...of Michigan |

Strut bodies are 45mm (44.97mm according to my Harbor Freight calipers), and the bushings press into a 47.4mm ID housing. The only 45mm du bushings in the Applied catalog have a 50mm OD. The housing OD is only 51.5mm, so boring it out isn't an option... -D |
