My new toy and the peeling and stitching of the golf
September 14, 2008 11:55AM
Well about 3 weeks ago i got started on the rotisserie
and started that for my shops use and my xr it turned
out great its alot more stable that i would of thought
with the 10 inch pneumatic tires. That i don’t plan to
have on forever. Mounted the golf up and parked it outside
to get peoples funny looks. We are going to clean all the
undercoating today and will post that latter and the
stitching and jack points.

William,

Looking good. I just had lunch with CBlakey last week and another buddy who works downstairs from me. He mentioned needed to borrow the Death ray from John.

Kevin, I have a self propelled walk behind mower if you want to borrow it. It's not a ride on but still pretty easy to drink a beer and keep it straight with 1 hand.

I don't need a mower!
Ok, maybe one of those push mowers, but I couldn't fit that tractor in my yard, that's for sure!
I think maybe somebody has "borrowed" my log-in name.
I should go over to his house and beat him with a wiffle bat with my name on it.

I'm much more interested in borrowing the rotisserie.

About that death ray, I thougth the same thing, then I used one and took off the last %80 in 90 minutes. It gets it really clean, and its FUN!

so what kind of checmical are you using with the death ray?

I bought some regular liquid nitrogen and it frankly didn't do shit... you could hear the undercoating cracking and popping as it froze, but it didn't really come off any easier.

I figured that was the wrong stuff when William was talking about nozzles and stuff. A Dewer of LN2 is like a fancy thermos with a styrofoam cork heh. It's ok it was cheap ($30 for 5 liters from the local welding supplier)

Yeah it takes a lot. I got the 80 liter tank for about $200. You have to do a bit of light chipping with a slag hammer. I wish i had a rotisserie, as you can do both sides of the floor at once as you chill down each section. Working areas about a foot square at a time seemed to work well. I just kept chilling an area, then tap with the hammer, when its just right the stuff shatters and falls right off. Of corse when you get over zelous, the steel cracks. hmmm. Really its just fun to hang out in a nice cool nitrogen cloud during a heat wave.

that looks like a lot of work just to postpone inevitable body damage...

Here's how we do it in LeMons:

Here's a surprisingly anticlimactic video of how its done:

And the full extent of the body damage caused:
