Thanks for the compliments!

MWS is my other company, no real secret there but I also let it "be it's own" at the same time without constantly tying it to just myself and my other work I do. I didn't intend to turn the thread into a big advertisement but the quickest way to show some of what I was using was just to link to my own site. My main goal here is still just to show the changes being made, get input, etc. After so many years of being addicted to rally, I finally have a car and am having a blast modifying it.

MWS and myself are both based out of the PSI complex in Hillsboro, OR.

Back to work, which is getting in the way of rally car work.......

What do you use on the harness when you're splitting from one big wad to several smaller clumps?

Fuck, I would love to build up quick change harness with a mil spec connection at the firewall but god damn that shit is expensive. I'm probably going to have to settle for raychem knock off sleeves for the engine bay and use that 4:1 on the connector butts so I'm not building a $1000+ harness.

I'm doing a refresh on the Civic before Sno*Drift and doing a fresh wiring/de-clutter is high up on the list.

Mexico would be amazing! I guess it would depend on total cost of course but also on how far out of specification the car is. I saw you were building a new car with that in mind, but wasn't sure exactly what the differences were.

From what I see. You actually sell prices per foot better than I can get in 100 foot quanities at www.buyheatshrink.com for Raychem. Once I price out my harness and how much I need, I might actually go the DR-25 route for the engine harness since I can get it by the foot from you.

Billy, you should see the wiring on the volvo.
Relays just randomly crammed under the dash, fuses scattered about, looms that split from one but branch back into another. No me gusta. I ripped it all out with no intention of putting it back. Those swedes did a pretty decent job putting that car together, but wiring was not their strong suit.

The Corolla is looking fantastic. It's nice to see people who take pride in the work they do. It's time consuming, but a tidy harness is a lot less troublesome and easier to trouble shoot when something is wrong.

Witnessed this firsthand at ojibwe Saturday. Wiring like this would have made things much easier.

That's a bit the same way with my car. Using the OEM harness, but I just had to replace an engine harness a while ago. I was tempted to make a custom engine harness, but I didn't have the time before STPR to do it. I wanted to get a pre-made Honda ChaseBays harness with Mil connector on firewall and raychem but it ends up being over $1000. FUUUUUUUCK THAT.

But I really want to make everything a lot more accessible in the car. I want to put the underhood fuse box inside the car, which will also give more room in the engine bay. While I think I did a decent job wiring the car as is, I was definitly skipping some fine tooth combing to get it ready for it's first rally at Sno*Drift in 2011.

Definitly having a nice, thought out, and compact harness will solve headaches down the road. Building them so you can easily pull out the current and swap in a new one is another win/win that you can do. If you think there's a wire issue, just yank the engine harness in service and swap it out instead of trying to chase a bad wire somewhere. Then sort out the harness when you have the time.

Well, haven't had much time to update this as the thrash was on to make Olympus. I made it there, the car ran awesome, and the only issues we had all weekend was lack of ground clearance due to stock front struts and we broke an axle two corners into the final running of Nahwatzel. It cost us around 3 minutes from our previous time, and burned up a new tire to boot but we finished and hung onto 5th in class. Needless to say I was very stoked and cannot wait to run the car again.

A few pictures, many of these were taken after Olympus so it isn't quite as shiny and white as it was when we finished but she is all broke in again. I simply ran out of time to take any shots when I finished. I literally fired it up, buttoned up some loose ends, made two pulls on the street in front of the shop to ballpark the tune and threw it in the trailer to barely make registration. Then we drove it from Olympia up to the Ridge and did a bit more tuning and debugging.
