I should be breaking ground within two weeks as long as the City doesn't bend me over too hard. The second floor is my man cave/home office with a full bath and kitchenette.

I should be out work on this:

After the timing belt jumped a couple teeth and broke something bad.
But instead I'm shopping for a new car after this:

July was a bad month for my cars. sad smiley

Playing an exaggerated game of telephone operator on a flying switchboard.

Or do you mean at home? At home I sleep, and sometimes troll RallyAnarchy...

Edit- that's pretty small. Here's a slight closeup

It can't be too bad..Redblocks are non interferance, slap a new belt on and go.
As for the other one, meh, its a road car. Insurance should fix that right up so what's the problem, just a little bang..

I'm actually going to pull the head and double check everything. When I tried to turn it over there is something stopping it from rotating.
The daily driver has been written off by insurance. Now its negotiating for the value of the car and shopping for something else.

Could be wadded up former cam belt all jammed up. Pull the plastic front cover first... Above all find out what it is first, don't just pull the head
BUT
Lissen, if you pull it you may as well clean it up some and PROBABLY oughtter chop around 1.5 to 1.6mm off to up the compression (unless its a turbo motor, then just light skim)..

Nice color car....reminds me of another nice 240 I had the honor of co-driving in a couple of times.. (sigh)

I already took your advice when I refreshed John. The head is shaved and it has the VX cam. I didn't think about the belt just being jammed up. Hopefully I'll find some time to get out to the car in the next week or two and get that front cover apart.
I actually had a question on the non-interference head. All the timing belts list for interference engines, but research online says non-interference. And is it still non-interference when its shaved down?

The chamber is stock about 13mm deep. Fully open the valve is maybe 12.7mm off the seat...max valve lift is however nowhere near TDC when the piston is up. It is somewhere around 90-100 degrees ATDC.
In other words, pretty hard to bash the valves into the pistons when the piston is way down the bore...
With a broken belt, the valve snap shut as soon as the belt is broken...and with INLINE valves--in line with bore----even if they do kiss, if you're luck is just normal, the piston just gently closes the valve.
I've seen traces of contact in the carbon in my mighty Saab V4 many times but valve were never bent.

Don't worry, be happy.

I like to punish myself, so this is the new daily driver. Whole bunch of little things to fix (clutch line just randomly popped, stainless steel one inbound). Interesting car though, way too heavy (3800lb's). Don't know if I regret it yet over getting a 1998-2001 A4 or something else, but we'll see. The price was right at $4k and it is pretty mint. Dump a grand worth of parts into it and enjoy it.
