Well, you don't really have the transmissions lined up right. The T-5 is actually a bit shorter than the Mazda transmission and the shifter is going to be a bit more forward. Start with the input shafts lined up and work back from there. That's the one thing you can't really change. Input shaft has to fit in the clutch/pilot bearing, everything else (bellhousing, driveshaft, shifter) can be modified from there.

The funny thing is, that trans is from a later RX-7 so the floor was probably hacked to make it work.

The '79-80 RX-7 did not have the remote shifter tower, and the shifter in the same spot as the RX-3. And, I'll bet that the T5 has the shifter come out in roughly the same spot as that.

Well the snout can easily be shortened and the nose where it pokes into the bearing can be reduced....The GM box pilot is 15mm---be good to know the bearing ID in the Maz-dog..

So Hoche, line the things up next to eachother with the tips of the input shafts on the same line and post piccies

The GM pilot is near-as-dammit identical to Mazda. GM is a thou or three off, and in violation of Murphy's Law, it's smaller than Mazda not larger.

Which is probably why a GM gearset is used.

Yeah, I looked at the Mazda case again this morning and what I thought was a really long bellhousing is actually the bellhousing plus the front half of the tranny.

Yeah, the floor is hacked:

Here's about where the T5 shifter will sit:

I used this shifter in Merkur to move shift knob back a bit. 2-3" or so.

Mines an older design like the attached picture though.

Is there a difference between an S4 Turbo-II and an S5 Turbo bellhousing?

Can't find just the bellhousing but I found two whole trannies.

S5 is also Turbo II.

I don't *think* there is a difference in the transmission. Nothing usefully different, anyway.

Isn't the bellhousing integral to the gearbox case?

Not on those specific ones. They went back to a separate bellhousing. Or so says my four days of extensive internet research, and you know how reliable THAT is.

tell me about it.

So separate mmmm that makes modding one a viable option....

Naturally sombody has a CAD file of the rotary block, right?

Where's that Alex Staidle when you need 'im

If we get that then its easy.....

Hurry up and find a loose bellhousing!

Re: RX-3

Turbo II has the "R" type transmission with a separate bellhousing, like the RX-3/4/5 transmission but beefier. Bellhousing bolts in from the inside because Japanese companies do things funny sometimes. Not funny ha-ha, more funny WTF.
