rabbit wheelbase 94.5"

110mph in deep gravel= dirty underwear

never closer to death than driving that car 100+ on a gravel road....never.

Golf wheelbase 97.2"

can't wait for a little more high speed stability

Correct it is a LITTLE more stable

Ask Jason about the Golf leaping sideways and mowing down the saplings on the side of the road when I went for the 4th to 5th shift at 8000 RPM in 4th....

MR2 - are you nuts?

It is for a proper Formula Atlantic engine. I don't think they share any common parts with a "pedestrian" 4ag like you're building

No, haha, they dont, but like John said, an Atlantic would be totally unreasonable for a rally car.

The only non "custom" (like Loynings) Formula Atlantic parts WORTH getting is the dry sump pan/pump/mount... and even then, thats only useful if your REALLY making enough power that crank case fluid is a resistence problem or your revs are so high the stock pump cant keep up. or both.

Oh no the motor wouldn't be unreasonable. The COST would be.
Ford Escorts could be had with BDAs at 1600, 1800 or BDGs at 2,0 tuned to more or lesssame specat Atlantic motors (210bhp for 1600, 252 for 2,0) way back in the mid 70s, and they are still faster than hell WITH the next horribly expensive part: a close ratio box..

All that is unneeded if only a person decides to build a 2300 turbo motor.
(And get a car that has a 2300T, let's see which cars come with rwd and 2300ts and cost 200-400 bucks? Which which which!!!!!??????)

$380 bucks for a gearset that will keep you happy.

oh. I was thinking that with the power band atlantic sized, even a close ratio box and a R&P wouldnt help a rally car due to the weight difference of the rally car and an atlantic open wheeled race car.

AW11 looks like it is too short for *rallycross*, stage rally is probably ridiculous.

Nope a 1600 making 210 bhp or a 2,0 making 260 at 10,000 rpm is gonna be an A ticket ride and DEMAND you to be pretty damn alert to stay on top of the gearbox or it'll be Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, duuuuh!
Those Atlantic cars might have 3.6 or so final drive.
The real car might have 5.1 or 5.3 and about the same size tires in those days.

Or Drysump to mount the motor closer to the ground to keep the weight low.

yeah, that would be a good reason to dry sump... but IMO thats less important then lightening the rest of the car before gaining a few inches will REALLY improve performance.

true....

not yet...I can bring down a full corner (strut to wheel) and take a look at what we need to do though, its about time for my trimester visit anyways.

I am busy re-wiring the entire car and working on some planning...lots left to do before doowops... car is kind of a pig too all things considered.

Sure you can; run NASA Rallysport events for your first few events (Idaho. Mt Hood, etc.) NRS does not restrict you from running any class. Don't limit car choice based on that issue alone; you have both 'brands' of events to pick from in the PNW.

I've never been a fan of thsoe small cars after coming across a Fiat X19 flipped on its side on a POR stage years back. The engine and fuel tank locations need to soberly be looked at in any mid-engined car for rally; you can have the following car or fast sweep several minutes behind you in case of a fire.

Jim McClelland in PA is the fellow running that type of tiny car in the east; you can reach him through the SS Forums.

Best of luck; get a rally car and go!

True, I could run NASA events in an open car, but if I didn't run RA that would mean missing half the events of the season. To me it doesn't add up to spend all the money on a car and only be able to go to half the events because you got "this car" in stead of "that car".

Anway, now that you guys won me over with wheelbase I am thinking...wait for it....how about a MKII Supra? 103" wheelbase, big motor with big power upgrades, 2700 lbs factory (about the same as a Sube), could get it down to 2447 min weight, good weight dist...yeah, i know, why not just get a Volvo...everyone should just rally Volvos....
