I think I just puked in my mouth... The problem is, rally is not a sport that is spectator friendly and thus, not very revenue friendly to a for profit company trying to run a series. I think the Fogg's are actually showing a little more sense this year. The website sucks ass, they're not producing or distributing much content effectively, but they're also not making grandiose claims about what they can deliver. I think they might surprise us... Except... wouldn't any spectator revenue rightfully belong to the event, not the series? 'on event' marketing properties are heavily controlled by the event itself, not the series promoter. I assumed you were when you said rally wasn't spectator friendly. Mostly because the sport is very good to watch, and easy to build up drama, in most virtual spectating venues. (IE: Time delay broadcast or web. It does suck in a live format unless you have MASSIVE infrastructure and support behind it) Rally is exciting to watch when produced well. It also costs a shit-ton more to produce than most other motorsports. from someone that's done both:
NASA's been much more accessible to start rallying. Love that they are trying new formats (rally moto, utvs, etc), national championship format is a shoot-out type formula etc. which seem to give folks the ability to get into the dirt and go sideways at a lower price point. targetted towards the grassroots racer. RA: lots of media hoopla. seems to attract teams with much deeper pockets. subaru contingency seems to help regional entries if you're one of those teams that swing that way ![]() Haven't been around long enough to see what comprised of previous era "club type formula", but i think from a big picture perspective, U.S. rallying is in a bit of a limbo.
