Nameless was an outlaw rally and I'm 100% supportive, I've got the tee to prove it smiling smiley Do you think the general public or PNW would have given two sheets that Top Gear had their own insurance and safety plan if something really bad had happened? Um. No.

Tanner had a co driver for the canyon run? It was a "rally race" right?

I like Tanner, I like Top Gear Uk, I tollerate Top Gear USA, I love rally. THe whole primise of the show was "why we shouldn't make fun of Tanners preferred motorsport" and then they proceeded to belittle it as much as possible.

Ok, I got news for you Chuckles...Nameless was not an outlaw rally. Nameless was a NASA sanctioned event and a qualifier for the national runoffs. It was staffed by the many of the same people who staffed the FIA Olympus back in the 80s. Some of this crew has been doing this since the late 70s. The project was approved by the land owners, TGs insurance carrier, NASA RallySport West and our organizing crew. Who the fuck are you to judge our decisions? Seriously, some of the people here need to get a life away from the key board on Rally Argumentative. The general public is quite different from rally people, but rally community out here that was aware of the project was quite supportive.

Holy crap Gene! Did JVL hack your account??? Who pissed in your Cheerios, 'cause it sure as hell wasn't me. Push your button and get the nurse to bring your meds.

Nameless was "outlaw" Olympus because the total douchebags at RA outright stole what was rightfully yours, And GOOD ON YOU FOR DOING IT. It was meant as props to you. I wore my Free Olympus shirt while loading my rally car to take it to the frame shop last night. Before the show.

Who the fuck am I doesn't matter. This is a public form of rally enthusiast. I was quite clear in what IN MY OPINION was positive and negative about THE DAMN TV SHOW. I'm kinnda doubting they cleared the script or final edit with you or the Nameless rally org team, so chill the crap out. I said nothing negative about you. your dog, or the rally.

Who the hell do you think saw the show, the PNW rally community or the"general public" Whose gonna catch the shitstorm when tanner kills himself or better yet Chrisse at YOUR rally? Good luck selling the "Hey it was a TV show, not us..."

Sincerely,

Chuckles OUT.

Dear Chuckles...
TV and Hollywood are wonderfully imaginative things. As such you should likely know that all you see isn't always reality. Ed O'Neill probably isn't really banging Sofia Vergara, Spocks ears were fake, Shiloh didn't really die during the movie. Nameless Rally was a fully sanctioned, insured and approved NASA National, same as Rally WV , Gorman or Sandblast. We were NRS before we ever were RA btw. Calling it an outlaw event , to me, implies many connotations most if which revolve around a non-compliance situation..scary if you will. Nothing was done different because it was NRS than if it had been RA. In fact we felt it was a coup that we got the event. History Channel was on location, used a road, paid for appropriate support to film their show. No different that them running thru the Eisenhower Tunnel at 150 mph last week. Tanner was not on the entry list of Nameless Rally btw. Nameless Rally, the organizers, NRS, Green Diamond were in no way shape or form responsible or liable for Tanner or Crissy and the filming of that show.

If you don't like the show Top Gear then that is fine with me. It is meant to be funny, irreverent and a different look at the automotive world. In that aspect it is a bit hit to me. Tanner is anything but reckless, careless or stupid. The DirtFish segment wasn't even filmed at the same time, oops there goes Hollywood again, and you can't somehow think that anyone is going to walk out of the class room up there and somehow just wrangle up a celebrity instructor and 3 DirtFish cars to play with...can you?

Our sport needs to be fun, whether competing, organizing or spectating. If it isn't fun then people need to find something that is, cause the pay sucks.

all I know is I got to see myself on the Tee-Vee! (if only for a third of a second) in super sweet high-gloss BBC slow-mow.

Sure it would have been awsome if they spent a full minute showing Garth, Adam, Derik or Hendos cars to show what the non-energy drink/sportsman scene is really like, but its a shiney tv show, not a book report. Certainly gong to be better PR than Block's gymkanna/ burnout in the parking lot vids...

They certainly must have worked the phone hard to get Subaroo to lend them Diggin's car.

I think Tanner is a great spokesman for rally in the US.

You are being intentionally dense and are having to work too hard to be offended. You are arguing points no one made. I've done everything short of hiring you a fluffer to get through to you at I had/have no ill will toward your event, but whatever. I don't care if you agree to disagree. Anyone with even a gnats brains amount of familiarity with rally would know tanner wasn't at your "rally". That falls into the no shit, Sherlock category. They set up bits and do multiple takes on multiple days on a TV show?...Wow tell us more wizard!!

Most people watching the show don't know shit about rally. What about that broadcast would leave them with the impression that Tanner was NOT "rally racing" the stock, no cage, street tyred Paceman?? What? For Christ sake, he beat 28 other cars!!??!? Came in Fifth! When Ford pulled their little stunt with the mustangs, They had a great film crew, but never pretended to be running a rally. They sure wasted a hell of a lot of time putting a cage in it,dumbasses.

It's exactly because you have so many decades of blood sweat and tears given to the sport that I am honestly amazed you would be star struck by a production crew wanting to use your credibility to sell the appearance that rally organizers think it's cool to blast street cars down stage roads in a rally, "against" all the real competitors. I could see a young naive organizer taking the bait, or big check, but someone of your standing couldn't say, "Ah, Thanks, that's not what we do. We'd love to have you film our event! I'm sure everyone here would Love to see Tanner rally again!, what car is he bringing?"

Why don't you get it. Tanner can jack off the Paceman, a Range rover, a Golfcart or a Bentley GT anywhere in the world, that's what the show does, every week. They don't pretend that when they are hooning the new SRT Dodge Challenger, that it's during the Daytona 500. That things a monster it would have been on the podium! They made a chump out of you, I guess that why your so butthurt about it.

I guess I was more shocked that SRT USA would let the STI out of the stable in the middle of a title fight. They must really trust VSC to put stuff back together in a hurry.

Nevermind. Fantastic show! I laughed, I cried, I grew as a human.

I do wonder if the shots of the GT86 are what made me dream I was pregnant last night though. That car just looks like sex.

Meh. Language is fluid, 'rally racing' is becoming commonly used.

'Rally' has so many meanings and the most common impression is a protest or a gathering, not what we tend to do.

I don't dare tell the border patrol I'm coming into the states for a rally, a race - yes, a rally race, works, but a raised eyebrow for sure.

I don't see what is worth getting worked up about.

Morrison you f'ing troll...smiling bouncing smiley

I think it is an old guy thing. I was part of the ProRally era. That word had an identity that worked and we're udes to it. The word rally alone doesn't and can be anything from protesting Canadians to cheering on the hi school football team. Rally usually has a qualifier in front of it. Pep rally , TSD rally, freedom rally etc and racing has a qualifier also, drag racing, road racing, downhill racing, pet gerbil racing. I know we can't say we 'rally' and have that mean anything to a non-participant. Rally racing is technically a proper descriptive but since it was pretty much from the flat brimmed, hat over their ears, Monster crowd it just seems wrong.

We need the SCCA to release the trademark to ProRally , that would be so cool. (as long as it wasn't transfered to the RA /Rallycar/hoonigan dipsticks

Most people can barely mumble away in one language..
I don't put a lot of weight in "what most---obviously ignorant--people call things...
Worldwide the word RACE and RACINg ---in the context of cars---so often you ignore context when you are telling us stuff we all know already----- means one thing "ROADRACING on a TRACK"

I speak more languages than you and read even more, it actually is amazing, and everywhere even in non-Indo-European language groups the word RACE and RACING means that.
And the world rally IN CAR CONTEXTS means stage rally.

Even in non-Indo-European languages..
How hard is it? If all those fucking foriegners can figure out things then why can't "the target demographic"

And yes Morison, we all know language is fluid...
How many did you say you speak? Is English your first?
